Here’s a hypothetical situation: you’ve been fiending for some new R&B music but don’t feel the need to listen to a track about texting with emoticons. Let’s also say you’re trying to find an artist that’s about to blow up like Mr. West at an awards show. Well then, not so hypothetically, I’d like to point you in the direction of Avery Storm. His new single, My Lady, has Storm illustrating his own affection for a woman in gripping prose. The piano-laced production supplied by Nefu compliments the Jersey native, who shows his complete vocal range in describing how “no other girl can hold [his] heart.” Storm’s recently released and aptly titled mixtape, Category 5, presented in affiliation with DJ Green Lantern and Scram Jones, is out now (did I forget to mention it was free? And dope?). We can only hope this will be the first step in a long career from this promising artist. Stay tuned to DJBooth.net for all the latest on Storm’s 2010 debut, Shotgun Love.

As refreshing as Sig described in his track review. Honestly, Avery sounds like nobody else out right now. That, in it of itself, is the biggest reason for his huge upside. This could see radio success if his camp decided to head in that direction.

I first heard Avery Storm on Rick Ross's "Here I Am". I agree with DJ Z, he has a refreshing unique sound. DJ Green Lantern has done great work lately as well. Banger!

I first heard Avery on Biggie's posthumous hit "Nasty Girl", I have been expecting him to blow up for a while, is this his big break?

@Z - All of my favorite artists in the R&B game have a unique voice (Ne-Yo, Lloyd, Jason DeRulo, Lyfe, etc.). All fresh as hell.

Avery is about to join that list. He sounds really fresh on here.

I like the music and the melody but I'm not really a fan of their vocals!

I could see how not every one will be a fan of the vocals, they're definitely unique, but I'm really digging Storm's style. Other than the fact that he should have come up with a new name for the mixtape considering Twista just dropped Category 5, I have absolutely no complaints about this.
