Although DJBooth has premiered various hit singles and interviewed some of the urban music industry’s biggest stars, our proudest moments come when an indie artist’s feature leads to a big break with a major-label deal. Such a moment occurred this past January, when Auburn (whose single Eww Eww placed on our Underground charts and was covered by her hometown newspaper) signed a major deal with super-producer J.R. Rotem‘s Beluga Heights label via Epic/Koch. Now, the Booth is proud to give you the world premiere of her newest buzz single, She’s Happy, which tells the story of how she got to where she is today. Rotem once again displays why he is the “King of Oldies Interpolation” by sampling Bobby McFerrin’s classic Don’t Worry, Be Happy. Auburn’s untitled major-label debut is currently set to drop in Q1 of ‘09.
I really like this track. Rotem made a nice beat here that fits a female singers voice absolutely perfectly. This chick definetely deserves a record deal, glad she got one.
DJ Royale, why are you shutting down something so positive? She's telling the story of how she got where she is, obviously she's happy about it, and the beat samples a CLASSIC. I've deleted your last comment; if you rate this again, give a reason why you don't like it, OK?
M. Burmy, why would you think I'm trying to shut Auburn down? I didn't blurt out negatisms or say anything harsh or personal. I just don't like the song and was at a lost for words. Sorry if I offended you or the website.
That hook is not 4 me. This is better tha her last song, though. Her singing is cool, production is catchy and hit material. Not something I'd play but this could work. So I'd play it.
Sure! But next time can you give me a slap on the wrist or a pink slip instead zapping away my comment. :( That hurts. DJ Booth is my favorite music website (real talk).
Haven't you guys figured out....DJ Royale is a hater. I don't know why she is, but she just is. I know from experience. Now, on to my favorite Minnesota artist, Auburn, finally putting us on the map! Do your thing baby! This joint is mad hot. I like Rotem's production. It didn't resemble a lot of his other mainstream production, which gives Auburn a separated sound from The D.E.Y or Sean Kingston (aside from Auburn's obvious resemblance of his style on the hook). I like the someone officially sampled this because I heard it on a spoof of a Soulja Boy song by Broken Equipment called "Boy Tell Em", and even for a Soulja Boy joint, the song was off the chains and had mad swag. This was awesome. Auburn is a great artist who has worked hard, has great God given talent and will make it far. I can't wait for the album. The first album was off the chains, and I'm sure this mainstream one will be just as good. You can go on and brush you shoulders off baby, you doing it. You too "royale" for the haters.
MH; spot on with the DEY and Kingston reference, though she puts a good twist on it. That being said, I love love her voice! Except when she's doing the Kingston-esque chorus; that takes away from the warmth of her real singing voice. I hope she blows up!
Radio record alert. Rotem keeps bringing back these old school soul and blues records, I'm impressed. Auburn does not try to do too much over the production. We like it over here!!
Defaming me isn't nice. Please don't take it personal b/c I feel your joints aren't banging. Hint: Fox Boogie. Now... wouldn't it be extreme partiality if this comment is deleted? As for the song, I'm not feeling it. To some, it could be a straight banger or classic. We all have different taste. Futhermore, is it likely to have you rate the artist and not the guest?
She has a really good voice, the song is cheerful, positive and catchy...but quite useless in my opinion! It will be played in the radio, but I will never hear it or never download it! This doesn't mean it isn't a good song...I like it but I'll forget about it faster than other tracks out now
I love all her music, JR is a genius for using Bobby Mcfarin's track in the is manner and Auburn is Amazing for writting about how she made is in the industry this is a hit!!!
