Atmosphere - Just for Show
Artist: Atmosphere
Producer: Ant
Album: The Family Sign
Label: Rhymesayers Ent.
Long time torch bearers for Minnesota hip-hop Slug and Ant (affectionately known as Atmosphere) finally return in full length form. Good thing because I was starting to forget how good When Life Gives You Lemons was. It’s been three years since the duo dropped a proper release but they haven’t starved fans completely, dishing out an EP or three in the meantime. The Family Sign from the duo drops April 12, via Rhymesayers, but let’s curve your enthusiasm towards the album’s first single Just for Show. Ant’s timely use of organs and blues guitars pair up nicely with Slug’s always introspective rhymes about relationships as he tells the tale of an argumentative couple that merely argues for the sake of arguing, knowing full well they don’t exactly want to leave one another. Just for Show runs in a long line of Atmosphere tracks in which Slug captures the emotions perfectly alongside a few sonic staples of Minnesota’s music scene from Ant, namely that guitar and electrofunk. Make sure you pick up The Family Sign when it comes around on April 12, not just for your personal family lineage but hip-hop’s too.

If you've seen Atmosphere live you know how his fans hang on to every word of his every song. Its pretty cool stuff. "Just for Show" is another record that will have fans, new and old alike, rapping/singing along with him. I really dig the musical vibe.

First, I love the fact that I just heard new Pitbull and new Atmosphere back to back on the Booth.
But enough self-love - these guys have been making their music their way for years, and their success should be a model for others. This is yet another track you connect strongly to, plus the rhythm on the beat's nice. Props all around. |

While the production is unimpressive, it is just as catchy. I can dig that. Lyrically, Atmosphere has never beeen the greatest, but they're consistent.
