They say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Asher Roth, hereafter referred to as Ash Roth or just plainly Asher, is sticking to this theory and continuing to build his catalog as he gains extra points in the rap game. Linking back up with Chester French (or just DA in this case), as he did on As I Em, the two’s respective and distinct sounds mesh perfectly once again on new record Gotta Get Up. Ash’s mellow laid back lyrical intricacy and DA’s raspy (voice effect of course) sing-songy hook both do justice to the production by Norfolk’s own Nottz, who provides bouncy pianos and almost boom-bap drums for Asher to discuss the daily task that’s both difficult and daunting: getting up out of bed and getting on with your day after a night of liver destroying festivities. As we wait for Ash’s upcoming album, The Spaghetti Tree, we should have more than enough to keep us satisfied with the release of his collaborative project with Nottz, the punnily titled Rawth EP, due to drop on December 27.

This is a great lane for Roth to drive in moving forward. Its catchy enough for radio to embrace (the labels love it) and not anything like the "I Love College" Asher which people refuse to let go of.

Yeah I agree Z. I was thinking radio play definitely on this. Just a short time before we see Chester French ripping charts also.
and agree with folks not letting go of the original image of Ash |

This is way better than "I Love College". In my mind, Asher has developed more his skill this year than any other and it really shows in this track.

The hook feels lazy and Asher is to dry for me.

Ok first off, i dont see how this is even close to being "radio play" type. There is no way this will be on the radio.
As for the record.... i have never been a big fan of A-Roth. I dont know why, but i just dont like him. I only like a couple things this record has. The production from Nottz is good. And the chorus is catchy. Thats all. In rotation for me.... most likely not... |

Ash is very alternative. Some of his work I really love (G.R.I.N.D) and some I dont so much, like this.
