Asher Roth - I Love College (Remix) ft. Jim Jones
Artist: Asher Roth
Featuring: Jim Jones
Producer: Mike Caren
Album: Asleep In The Bread Aisle
Label: SB/SRC/Def Jam
A popular nickname for 22-year old rapper Asher Roth is “The Great White Hope,” and for good reason. Rhyming from a young, working-class perspective, the Morrisville, Pennsylvania native brings some much-needed creativity into the hip-hop scene. Set to release his currently-untitled debut album on March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) under SRC Recordings, Asher’s currently riding the wave of I Love College, an ode to the best four years of his life that has even the most rough-and-tumble MCs putting their drinks in the air and chugging. Jim Jones shows up for the remix, admitting that, though he spent only one semester in college, he loved the experience as much as the hardest-partying frat boy. To put it in Asher’s words, “Do I really have to graduate, or can I just stay here for the rest of my life?”

Whoa, straight up, this dude does not look like a rapper! I like the production on here, and being a college student myself it's a cool song I can bump at a party and relate to. Other than that, I'm going to make a statement but then I will explain before people freak out: He sounds EXACTLY like Eminem. Now, let me explain. His voice sounds exactly like Em, but nowhere close to his flow, lyrics, or overall talent. With that being said, I still love this track because it caught me so off guard. I'ma throw a 4 at it, although it's a completely different kind of 4 than the one I gave Crack A Bottle. (Make sense?)

Jim Jones needs not sing......ever. Dis is kwl but itz awfully repetitive kinda like ellipses (I always seem to use em') but it is what it is I guess right?

its funny how asher's new track is right by shady's...anyways he's makin noise. at first i didnt really like asher but after giving "the lounge" and his millie freestyle a chance he's not half bad. His songs are very humoruos in an intellegent way.I give him props for having someone mainstream like jim jones on his track instead of charles hamilton or B.O.B.for a change
i agree that jim jones is a horrible singer but this is a typical asher roth song. overall i like the original better. o and that freestyle he did "the day I crowned" ..super creative. |

these types of songs are popular with a certain segment of the population. doesn't work for me though. too laid back and lazy. lacks the ambition and dominance that typical rappers rap about all the time.
cb126405: you've heard the original rock song right? same thing with a lil more on the drums lol nothin special. and yeah, his voice is a lot like Em's. not sure if he really wants the comparison and Jim Jones SUX!! |

Doesn't work for me either Donjonjon!!...for me this is awful/terrible/horrible/&nerve; racking! I will never ever play this again. I skipped through it and heard enough. I've never ever like Jim Jones and Asher- is right there beside him...I seriously don't understand all the high ratings. GARBAGE!

Hmmmm....this kid might be the new EM (Don't start a big debate people...but I mean, he has the fresh appeal that Em USED to have).
This joint was decent. I still got to get into Asher more. I like the production and Jim Jones was cool on this. He's showing some different styles. I can throw this in rotation. |

Oooh, what have you done now Lupe?!? :s You made these kids think that smart is cool! :p
I’m with Lameleon and I’ll sip tea on his behalf! I like the laid back vibe of this one, the guitar is very good and the beat change is subtle but it’s proper! Both rappers were entertaining! Jim Jones is an ok singer for a rapper, had decent lyrics and a suitable flow for the beat (and it’s always good to know a rapper has some intellectual background)! Asher’s voice is Eminem’s on sedatives! But his mind works perfectly and his lyrics seem to come effortlessly cool! PS: WOW:/, you don’t have to write all the synonyms to make your point, lol |

I was surprised by Jim Jones. This is the only verse I've ever liked by him. He had nice flow and real lyrics- and they rhymed! Anyway, Asher put together an awesome song. His lyrics were funny as hell and he's a decent rapper himself.

Asher Roth & Eminem thing needs to stop. They're two different people, and Eminem's already made it. Asher's still has to do that.
I don't really like Jim Jones, but I can't deny this song because of him. And he didn't do bad to get that sorta treatment. The part where he sings, though... lmao |

The musici s good but it's not my type of song, it gets boring after a while. I don't think that their way of singing fits the music...it's ok

I can't mess with this dude at ALL!!! How can you just steal someone's entire sound and style and expect to be Good at rap??? WAAAAAY too much like Eminem, but he is nowhere near as good. I can't give this dude credit for sounding like Eminem...Never... Jim Jones needs to give it up... He's been wack since Max B stopped Writing his lyrics. Absolutely NO WAVE to his MUSIC! COOOORNY ass dudes on this track!

Dj Blaze I usually respect and agree with your reviews of songs. But i tottally disagree with th enotion that asher roth stile em style, their entirely two differen artists. Their subject matter and upbringing are different and the only similarily is that their white. Also, people who are quick to judge Asher Roth for the song, go on his myspace page or listen to his mixtape. The remix of the song is not his best, but a decent song.

Never heard much of Mr. Roth till I picked up XXL magazine. Since then I have listend to some of his tracks and he has some great lyrics. Also he seems to keep in real and he killed that milli remix.

Clipso...You are missing my point...I didn't say they have the same subject matter...I just said they have the SAME EXACT STYLE and VOICE! I know many white guys that rap that are just as good and sound like Eminem too; and that's the reason they don't come out; because they would sound too much like him. If someone came out and sounded JUST LIKE Kanye West with the voice and everything, then I would feel the same way. If Eminem was to read off of asher roth's lyrical sheet, then you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between the two. I can't give someone credit for completely sounding and flowing on the beat EXACTLY as someone else. If someone was to come out sounding EXACTLY like 2pac with the flow and voice and all, he would never be accepted...Just look at Gorilla Black...he sounded too much like Biggie and it was never going to work for him!
In short...it's not a racist thing...Its a flow and sound thing. He sounds and flows almost 100% just like Eminem and it is unacceptable to me... |

Hell Em came off the tree of House of Pain, 3rd Bass, and the Beastie Boys (the old stuff) so does it matter? Let the cat have a chance to prove himself before comparing him to one of the biggest artists of our generation

I don't think Asher sounds like Em, he's like a new breed of rapper. kind of like Lupe Fiasco and KiD CuDi.
oh and this track is a true anthem that im sure even Harvard students will be banging for years to come. |
