Ever since rocking our front page with their debut single Big City Bright Lights, Miami-based crew ArtOfficial has been a DJBooth favorite for their live-instrument foundation and innovative style, so when offered the chance to premiere their new track Doing Things Wrong we jumped at the chance like Tiger Woods on a pornstar. Produced by ArtOfficial themselves, in many ways the somber Doing Wrong is the epitome of the group’s sound, expertly combining rock and jazz influences (hence the extended piano outro) with some distinct hip-hop sensibilities on the mic, coming to us courtesy of emcees Newsense and Logics. If you ask me, musically speaking this group of up-and-comers is doing everything right. (I apologize, that was an atrocious pun, even for me.) This track is currently slated to be on HipNott Records Mixtape (Vol. 2) and ArtOfficial’s upcoming mixalbum The Payback - which you can watch being recorded here and here – both of which are slated to be released soon.

This is just a quality song. These guys know what creativity and originality means. The different instruments sounded great and the emcees really have some talent. Good vibe.

What a concept - a hip-hop band! You'd think that with the success of The Roots more would try their hand at this angle. While I am not enamored with either emcee, I love the live instrumentation and the extended piano outro.

Hip-hop need more live instrumentation! I wish Wayne utilized it more on his rebirth cd. I don't really like the hook on this and neither emcee blew me away, but overall the pieces fit together well.

You can't beat live hip-hop, you just can't. Didn't get blown away on the lyrical end - solid but not stellar - but the instrumentation and creativity on this was huge. Touch up the chorus a bit and you've got a certified banger.

ArtOfficial's lyrics fit very snugly into the instrumental, making for a very listenable song. Rotation-Stuff.
