Ariez Onasis - Came Up
Artist: Ariez Onasis
Featuring: Rock City
Producer: J. Cardim
Album: The Heartbreak Kid
Label: Dice Music Group
Absent from our front page since last July, when he brought us the 74th entry in our exclusive freestyle series, Dice Music Group up-and comer Ariez Onasis is back to reintroduce himself to our readers with mixtape leak Came Up. As the title suggests, this track finds the emcee looking back on the formative years he spent struggling to survive in the streets of St. Thomas, chronicling how he developed his unstoppable drive to succeed. Booth-approved beatsmith J. Cardim (who produces the entire project) mans the boards here, backing Onasis’ self-mythologizing bars with a brass/piano-driven instrumental that practically drips with determination, and fellow reader faves Rock City (also hailing from the Virgin Islands) tie it all together with some uplifting, characteristically catchy hook vocals. If this motivational jam drives you to seek out more new music from Ariez Onasis, you’ll find what you’re craving on his latest street album, The Heartbreak Kid, when it hits the ‘net this fall.

Ariez, where you been bro? Good to have you back in our Booth. One of the most important things an artist can do is align themselves with talented people. Filling that role on "Came Up" are personal favorites Rock City and on-the-come-up producer J. Cardim.
The hook is high energy, but could have been a little catchier, but nonetheless the quality of the championing production isn't lost. On the mic, Ariez takes command with his flow and vocals. Nothing out of this world, but a solid re-introduction. |

In all honestly this song would have done much better without the rock city feature. Ariez did a great job but im just not feeling rock city on this track.

Something wasn't flowing here. Seems like everything with just minor tweaking could make this song a banger, but until then it's a forgettable track to me. 2.5 rounding up.

Another emotionally backed song today, loving the feeling "Came Up" is giving off. Ariez does a solid job with his verses. Really can tell he is talking from his experiences which are the best songs to hear verses on.
Ariez put together a tight song and is really well executed. Rock does a decent job with the hook but nothing memorable. This song seems like it is suppose to really move you but the hook only does that to a certain level. Feel like Rock could have done a stronger job with it, but at the same rate it is still solid. |

This song doesn't really flow. Some tweaks to the beat would make it better, but even then I don't know if I'd really like it.

Yeah I really like this also. I'm not crazy about Rock City on it either but I think the beat and the raps make up for it.

Ariez Onasis, never really heard of him before, but based on his performance with this, I have no reason not to check out his previous material.
Ariez, definitely carries this track. I agree with everyone saying that Rock City wasn't really needed. "You Are" made me a fan, but I kinda felt as though they were lagging on this. As far as production goes, that piano in the background is what caught my attention. The hook was kind of boring, IMO, but Ariez does this track justice. |

Ariez and Cardium were dope, Rock was alright, and overall this is a cool, but forgettable song.

J. Cardim went in on this production...its pretty sick! This being the first track I've heard from Ariez, I'm definately impressed. He really knows how to flow to the beat and his lyrics are decent too. Rock City on the hook was a good choice, but something is lacking. Ariez and the sick beat make this a banger for me!

Ariez has a distinct voice and is very easy to listen to. However, Rock City usually has their RnB spin on songs to be catchy, but this just fails for me. Not as good as his last production. An average song, not much more than that.

so then must be this must be one of the few times ive ever heard the guy.
and what a first impression from the lyrics and production there just epic wow so sick so imbevalent(yes i think im making up words) ariez is on top of his flow right here its pretty empressive the flow has its i gotta shine moments and so does the beat so they take turns taking the spotlight in this song. the instrumental comes in hard with certain synth string taking over and really making this but the change up towards the end from the instrumental to ariez sorta solo part bieng just complimented by the beat was nice and really well deserved by a good artist so far great first impression man 4 stars there was something here that averys song was missing and as a result didnt get 4 stars MAJOR PLAY ON MY MP3 |

Hook, verses and production - all elements are solid and tied together well, but none of 'em can be labeled new and basically heard before in some form or fashion. Overall, this song is nothing next but its good ol’ fashioned street-motivational jam.

J.Cardim never disappoints on the beat, and I fully support Rock City on PTFAO campaign. Ariez did good on here. Repeat-worthy.

The beat is very catchy. Love the BIG drums, and strings. I first heard Rock City when someone at my job who is related to one of them, left one of their early cd's in the locker room. I listened to it and was very impressed. They've come along way.
The beat is probably the best part though. Ariez vocals don't have the wow factor that the music does. Its kinda overshadowed by the beat. I am B=mc2. Liked Rock city on this one. Areiz was nice on this. The beat from J. Cardim bangs, but I don't see myself listening to this again.

I agree with DJ Z here, the hook could have been a little catchier, but nothing makes my day like a success story, and even more than that, a celebration of said success.
Nice flow, witty lyrics, Rock City did a great job, all-around a good song. I hope radio does play him, because this was not bad at all. |

You know you're listening to a J. Cardim production when those drums sound so lively and spontaneous like that. The breakdown is done in such good taste! These two aspects make Cardim's signature sound and I love it!
It's a shame the hook is a bit uninspired, despite being well handled vocally. Rock City are pure talent and I shouldn't be needing to type this: PTFAO! Ariez gave me a good first impression. His delivery (voice and cadence) is nice and rhyming "Manhattan" with "main man rapping" takes some talent. ;) |
