Apollo - College Life ft. Luc
Artist: Apollo
Producer: Taylor "Proper-T" Johnson
Album: The Architect Album
Label: Vinyl Records UNC
Like Asher Roth with his frat-hop hit, I Love College (and its Jim Jones-featuring remix), “hip-pop” emcee Apollo paints a romanticized picture of the College Life in his first Booth feature. To be fair, the North Carolina native is a considerably better role model – while Roth seemed to see higher education as nothing but an excuse to chug keg beer and dance all night, Apollo claims “I don’t drink/ I just party for the chicks.” In laid-back, conversational verses, he reminisces about the frantic cram sessions, missed classes, and neighbor-infuriating all-nighters that defined his college years. Up-and-coming producer Taylor “Proper- T” Johnson heightens the nostalgic vibe, assisted by singer-songwriter Luc‘s melodic hook and ringing guitar chords. Apollo’s sophomore album, The Architect, is out now on indie label Vinyl Records.

I'm loving these college anthems! It's giving me all the motivation to enjoy the last 3-4 months of it! This one is a lot better than Ashter Roth's, it has pop appeal with that guitar rift/chorus that will reach a bigger audience. Chorus was a little too long, but it's still a great, well written song. I will hold onto this one for a while, banger! ENJOY COLLEGE EVERYBODY!

I LOVE the crossover appeal here. This has just enough pop to make it at radio and more than enough hip-hop to keep it real.
Sidebar: real is the most overused word in the hip-hop language. Apollo has a chance to do some things... whats next, though? |

This track is not bad. It's a kind of interesting beat to rap over, it has a more soft rock appeal to it... I feel it tho. I didn't like his flow all that much, but I liked his real-life (college-life) lyrics. One of my favorite recent songs is by the Cool Kids, just talking about goin to the grocery store, so I like it. I'll agree... the hook was too long.

It's cute and pop appeal but as far as getting any actual play on a RnB station? I doubt that. But it is mos def a song I'll sing and get talked about for. But like I said, i like it.
