Aloe Blacc - I need a Dollar (How to Make It in America)
Artist: Aloe Blacc
Producer: Truth & Soul
Album: Good Things
Label: Stones Throw
I’m starting off the week with a case of strep (fruit baskets can be mailed to…), so the last thing I need is to catch a case of the bad-music blues. Fortunately for me, Aloe Blacc’s I Need a Dollar is just what the doctor ordered: a smooth melody with a soulful vocal backing that, in short, blew me away. On his premiere DJBooth single, it’s the simple piano backdrop from Truth & Soul that characterizes the somber tone that Blacc’s old school soul lyrics portrays. Already gaining momentum from its feature on HBO’s new show How to Make It in America, the song itself tells the story of so many individuals (and artists) who have struggled through hardships to simply stay alive:“It’s been a long troublesome road, and I need someone to help me carry this load.” We know you’re going to like this one, so be sure to check out his latest, soon to be released project, Good Things, during your next check-up.

this caught my attention right away...this sample is really nice...i just wanna hear the sample right now lol...google time...the sample is playing to long for it to be his song...wow tell me why this isn't a rap song lmao...yea djkidd had a slow moment so what...engineering should have been better, this take me back to the temptation days...im liking this a lot, writing is great and so is the hook, the beat is cool but i can't rate this a banger because of the bad engineering so...heavy rotation...

This is an OUTSTANDING record. This will join John Public's "Sneaker Music" as two of my favorite FEATURES from this year.

Copy and paste what Sig wrote in his blurb (minus the strep throat part).

Love the piano contribution and I could definitely see the I Need a Dollar chorus sampled on a rap song sooner than later

I love the old school feel. His voice has the tempation/the ojays type of sound. But it still sounds cool and not it all dated. Great message as well.

I love this song and what it stands and i have been listening to it constantly. This song will defintiely reach a older demographic since it has a motown feel to it especially with the production. In addition, alot of people can relate to it with our current economic situation.

Not really my type of Banger although it is gonna be in the rotation... its one of those tracks where i will be singing this shit at work... i need a couple $'s also... simplistic and soulful, it has been a pleasure stumbling on this one thanks for the post dj booth.
