Having started her lengthy career as the younger sister of rap group Audio Two (best known for hip-hop’s most sampled single, Top Billin’), rapper MC Lyte knows all about assemblage. Putting that knowledge to work, the 36-year-old Lyte as a Rock veteran has teamed up with producer/DJ Jared Lee and background vocalist Whitey White to form the new supergroup, Almost September. Set to release their self-titled debut album as an iTunes exclusive on May 27, the group’s lead single deals with the all-too-forgotten topic of Love. Joining in on this poetry in motion are fellow hip-hop legend, KRS-One, and longtime Outkast/Goodie Mob protégé Sleepy Brown, who together give Love true throwback appeal.
this is some wake- up show 3am music right here. KRS-1 always comes correct. Lite is a great one as well. The beat is kinda boring to me but I like the message. 1 love
KRS-1 hasn't lost that swagger. MC Lyte one of the original femcees; she still sounds good. I dig any pro-humanity song. I don't think this will make the radio but we'll see.
This is one of those "If you only listen to hip-hop music for the beat, and not the lyrics, you won't understand the angle here" type-of-songs. Sleepy Brown needs to find some more work, I forgot how talented this man is on a hook... and don't sleep on Lyte y'all, she was throwing it down before most of you were spittin' up baby food.
