Now that Alicia Keys has dropped her emotional new album The Element of Freedom I think we can expect half the rappers and DJs on the planet to jump on a track with her. Today DJ Green Lantern became one of the first to throw his hat into the remix ring with his Empire State of Mind Part 2 (Remix), which is in essence a remix of Alicia’s remix of her smash single with Jay, Empire State of Mind, although Green Lantern mixes in both versions (follow that?). Musical genealogy aside, the central point is that in addition to Lantern’s dope production skills the remix features several Big Apple rap stars, including Raekwon, Capone-n-Noreaga and Styles P. For my money Raekwon’s verse is easily the best, but I’m sure the Booth will set me straight if I’m off. For more from the lovely Ms. Keys, pick up a copy of Element of Freedom, available now, and of course keep it locked to DJBooth for more dope remixes of remixes.

Love it. It was only a matter of time before this happened. Way to many talented artists from NY who I am sure have been waiting for the right time to jump on a remix.

This is some of the best production work I've heard from Green ever.

Hrm, this one isn't really doing it for me. I'm just not feeling the production; it really does not do the original justice. One of the reasons that the original is such an anthem is because of Shux's colorful production. This remix just doesn't have it.

Ok, maybe I was a bit premature on my rating. It is growing on me already, but I do find the beat during the hook rather annoying, but its somewhat pleasing otherwise. All rappers hold their own. 3.5.

the only version of this song that i like is right here. Raekwon slayed this track. Green Lantern too. Raekwon sounded 100 times better than Jay-Z on the orig jus to let all the Jay-Z lovers kno.

As a producer, I wouldn't come near this track. The original was too perfect. CnN was not too good. Nothing about this song would make me listen to it over Jay's version or Part 2

I thought this production work was great. Creative sampling of the first song. This is a true remix! Every emcee comes hard and Alicia is Alicia. Great remix!

Gotta disagree with Z on this one. The song's quality, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed. The production didn't blow me away and other than The Chef, I don't know if any of these verses are particularly quotable. It's good, but I know New York can do better.

@Nathan S. - Sometimes I feel like you just want to pick a fight! Haha. Honestly, though, I am not usually blown away by Green's production. I cannot say this BLEW ME AWAY (like a Dilla/Dre/Premo beat could), but its very good for him. Period.

Good but definitely nowhere near the original or Alicia's version, in my opinion. Raekwon had the best verse, while others just struggles to do justice to DJ Green Lantern's composition. Rotation-Stuff.

Its a decent remix, though I know for a fact that the Empire State Of Mind (Part 1) remix is going to kill this. The rumored names to feature on that track are Nas, 50 & Rakim so im pretty shore it will be dope as hell.

I really like part 1 the best then the original but this is okay. Everyone flowed well and the song is already a major hit with Ms. Keys vocals.

I was ready to give this mix a four just from hearing Rae's verse. He kills it. But after that it all goes downhill from there. I was most disappointed with Styles P's verse. Really Styles that's all you have to offer? Not cool. Overall it was a decent record though.

it's okay. Very interesting mix of artist on this one, I think they could have put together a much harder hitting line up of NY artist for sure. Maybe the remix of p1 will have them.. will be forsure looking for that.
