Aleon Craft - Wonderland (Remix)
Artist: Aleon Craft
Featuring: Hollyweerd
Producer: SMKA
Album: The Stargazing Soundtrack
Label: SMKA Productions, LLC
Aleon Craft is just a little too strange for mainstream rap (see A Different World). And Hollyweerd is, well, just a little too weird for mainstream rap (see Edible Phat 2.0). So it’s no coincidence that the two boundary-breakers and brothers in oddity have linked up for the remix to Craft’s spacey Wonderland. Production team SMKA drops a funky, spacey and bouncing beat for Aleon to spit rhymes about a certain female’s best attributes (John Mayer this isn’t), which he delivers in his trademark breathy cadence, while on the front end the Hollyweerd crew assists with more of the smoothly flying rhymes they’re becoming know for, dropping reference to everything from MC Hammer to Southern food staples. Seriously, there’s got to be something they put in Atlanta’s drinking water. They do know it’s supposed to be fluoride, not LSD, right? Whatever we have to thank for this refreshingly original hip-hop, you can bank on Aleon’s upcoming project The Stargazing Soundtrack to be just as creatively forceful when it drops August 16, right here on DJBooth.

Aleon Craft has slowly grown on me. At first I wasn't sure what type of artist he was or the audience he was hoping to appeal to. Now, I think I get him. His music is dreamy, spacey, synthy (thanks to SMKA) and trippy - but you don't have to abuse a green drug in order to appreciate or enjoy.
Fact of the matter here - I couldn't think of a better guest feature than the Hollyweerd boys. |

The production is nice for really spacey production. I wasn't a huge fan of the hook, but I like the rapping on here also. Enjoyable.

Damn Z, great minds think alike. Aleon Craft's not one of those artists you can listen to 30 seconds of a track and know what he's all about. It takes more than a few listens to grow comfortable with him, but once you do, you realize he's really doing something dope.
Original cut was fresh, and the addition of Hollyweerd only makes it better. Stargazing indeed. |

Aleon Craft has yet to put out a track I can appeal to. I feel hes a watered down version of andre 3K, minus the artistry and talent.
