Aleon Craft - The Way You Do the Things You Do
Artist: Aleon Craft
Producer: 808 Blake (of SMKA)
Album: The Prologue
Label: SMKA Productions, LLC
As his stage name suggests, Booth newcomer Aleon Craft styles himself as a musical Flash Gordon, searching every corner of the universe for artistic inspiration and fresh new sounds. Whatever the truth may be, the inaugural leak off the Atlanta-based space cadet’s latest mixtape leak certainly feels like it was dreamt up somewhere far from Earth’s surface. This loose cover of Smokey Robinson-penned Motown smash The Way You Do the Things You Do trades the Funk Brothers’ upbeat arrangement for an off-kilter, narcotically chill electronic groove by SMKA‘s 808 Blake, and the Temptations’ soulful vocals for Aleon’s near-whispered harmonies. On the back end, the artist switches things up with a rapped 16, lacing his bouncy bars with pop-referential come-ons. So, is Aleon’s “Solar-hop” reinterpretation of the classic cut so fresh that it’s out of this world, or should it be swept away with the rest of the cosmic debris? If you find A.C.‘s left-of-center sound to be downright stellar, you won’t want to miss the new material he’s set to showcase on The Prologue Pt. 1, scheduled to take the galaxy by storm March 15.

Atlanta artists continue to amaze me with their "alternative sound." I give them credit - nobody else across the country seems bold enough to go out on a limb and take experimental risks with their music.
The first listen to this record produced a "Um, really? Is he whispering??" After a few listens, though, I dug the beat more and more and decided this was unique enough to get some shine. |

member back in the day you would by an album and listen to it over an over until it soaked in...those days are OVER.
But I'll say this. Atlanta funk and Aleon Craft ish, aint for everybody. Its not the ish you may be accustomed to listening to, and it certainly ain't on your radio. But dude has fun with it and is trying to create original funky music. so..respect |

I appreciate the attempt, which by the way doesn't entirely fails, but it just needs to flow and mix together better. Experimental indeed but not easily accessible. Overall, I too will raise up my rating, it definitely ain't worthy of one star ratings.

Man, I got raised on Robinson (and the Temptations, 4 Tops, etc.) and I wanted to love this track, but the execution just isn't there. So props for the dope concept, and for giving it a shot, but I can't front; just not feeling it.
