Akon - Time Is Money
Artist: Akon
Producer: Akon
Album: Untitled LP
Label: Konvict/Upfront/SRC/Universal Motown
Akon’s Time is Money leaked a little over a year ago, but today we finally get the final, mastered version, which finds the Konvict CEO replacing former guest feature Caribbean duo Rock City with Big Meech (yes, that Big Meech). Speaking of which, the Black Mafia Family represneter opens the song by dropping a gem about the difference between broke dudes and paid dudes that’ll make you question which category you fit into. From there it’s into producer Akon’s self-made production, which manages to be both eerie and clean, haunting and a banger at the same time. It’s the perfect backdrop for ‘Kon to unleash his trademark half-sung, half-rapped style as he vents about the trials and tribulations he’s faced, even while experiencing dizzying heights of success. Akon hasn’t decided whether or not Time Is Money will appear on his still untitled and unscheduled upcoming album, so I’m guessing that depends on how the track’s received. So how about it Booth? Does this song have what it takes to bring Akon back into the spotlight as a solo artist? We’ll find out soon in the comments below.

I remember hearing the leaked/unmastered version last year and thinking it wasn't worth a release. Since then the Rock City boys were removed for the song and the production got a few tweaks. Is it much better? No, but its pretty usual affair if you like Akon's more street, less pop side.

It seems like just days ago when Akon was all over the airwaves. Will he ever match that level of success again? I don't think so. Is this the next hit he's been waiting for? Probably not. But the fact that he's still trying and still putting out solid tracks (not chart toppers) solid tracks is something I respect. Hope I'm wrong but only time will tell.

Someone tell Akon to either quit while he's ahead or give Weezy a shout

I think still better than his leaks with Guetta; those are so generic...

I think this is decent, a more street Akon sound.

If Akon keeps on dropping wack songs like this, his album will never get a release date.

I think Akon does best when he's producing pop music. This song is nothing special.

I wonder what happened to the hit-making Akon that gave us 'Trouble', 'Konvicted', 'Freedom' and countless hit records back in the day... It's a real shame to see him struggling like this to drop the single that will finally secure his album a solid release date.

Akon has fallen off. He used to crank out hit after hit, but this is not very good and its actually sort of boring and lacking energy. I don't even think this will get radio plays, which used to be his specialty.

The beginning sounded like Akon has been hanging out with Lil Wayne for too long.

Definitely not the best I heard, chorus gets a lil boring. But its Akons usual flow.

Why don't we expect the unexpected. AKON is releasing such singles on purpose. He won't put such an album. This shows that AKON is preparing something for us. As mentioned by AKON "expect the unexpected". Now you're expecting an ordinary album so something unecpexted will be released later. So we just wait.
