Akon - Take It Down Low
Artist: Akon
Featuring: Chris Brown
Producer: Polow Da Don
Album: Stadium
Label: Konvict/Upfront/SRC/Universal Motown
If you woke up this morning thinking, “I wonder what Akon is up to lately?” or “I really hope Chris Brown tries to rap on another song – his verse on ‘Look At Me Now’ was actually pretty good!” then today just might be your lucky day. Akon’s back with the brand new, Polow Da Don-produced single Take It Down Low featuring a rap-ish verse from Chris Brown and a lot of robotic sounds. After the lukewarm-to-outright hostile reception of his participation on the 25th Anniversary edition of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Akon seemingly slipped under the radar. If there was any way to recover from that blow, a boisterous and bass-heavy club banger is a good bet. People are willing to forgive a lot when your song instructs inebriated females to “take it down low,” especially when Polow Da Don delivers the goods with robust production that challenges the listener to remain still. It’s been about three years since Akon’s last album - with new project Stadium on the way, could this be the single that puts him back on top as a solo artist?

Akon has my attention once again, I was starting to lose hope in him. This is FIRE.

Why? Why Akon, why? You have a proven formula that works on lead singles and then you release this? Where is the slow, melodic club/r&b hit? Oh well.
There is nothing special about this song and doesn't stand out from any other artist can create. Not feeling it. |

If it isn't broke don't try to fix it. Akon's been following that notion for awahile now and it's definitely work well earning him unbelieveable success in the Club/Pop world. Same sh*t different song here, and it works. Chris definitely isn't negative, but singing's still his forte. Won't be long before this is burning through the clubs.

I'm with joshL on this. Production is paint by numbers, Acorn can't sing and Chris Brown can't rap.

I love the production in this song. Those hi-hats are ridiculous. Akon is on fire in this song too. Breezy...well I'm still not sold on Chris Brown as a rapper. He was decent on Fan of a Fan with Tyga, but I will never forgive him for that "I'm done..." stunt he pulled on "Look At Me Now". This song would be a banger without his iffy addition.

This one is kind of iffy on this one. I like Akon stuff before this better. This is just not his lane sorry.

what akon needs is something along the lines of 'im so paid' to get back into the hearts of rnb and hip hop fans before he attempts to win the hearts of the radio listeners

Chris Brown adds good flavor to the track. Akon sounds like he is pushing the verses out, lacking his usual fluency - definite club track. Gonna have to listen to this track a few time to catch the flow.

Whats the deal with all these singers trying to rap? Don't they know their is more money in singing? Akon has made masterful music - this is not that.

I wonder if ppl dont dont get dizzy from the down low songs to the getting high joints. Is no one enjoying life on one level anymore...LOL.
Anyway, I might not love it but that wont stop it from doing well. |

This is just average. I’m glad that Chris Brown is back but do they have to put him on every track?

It's not a bad song but I expected much better from these 2 famous artists together! I think it will be played on the radio, though

No bueno, Akon has proven he can do quality tracks and Polow needs to step his production game up. I have more of an issue w/ the lyrics more than anything. Oddly enough CB helped the track tremendously.

I've been behind Akon on his club transition because a few of them were really solid but this one is just forced.Catchy but way to forced. I mean its got some good parts but Akon can do better

good soundin', lovin the production as usual by Polow Da Don however it starts to make me remember breezy's sound of 'I can transform ya' this track is pretty solid.
If it were instrumental I think I would rate it 1 up |

I don't mind this. Something a little different for Akon, but not really that different from any other strip club aimed R&B record out there. Wish CB didnt rap so often now, even though his verse isn't too bad on this record. Probably won't get Akon the hit he was looking for. 2.5 stars

I like it but why do they have to try to rap. Do they think there all bad because they try to rap. This would be a banger but with the rap its OK.

Are you kidding me? "badadda dadada dadaa... I'm done" Chris Brown's verse on 'Look At Me Now' should have been a MAJOR red flag when Akon went looking for someone to share the limelight with. That was embarrassing, and again in this one, his voice cracks more than a pre-pubescent monkey getting spanked.. Sorry for that picture I just painted but you get what I mean. STAY AWAY FROM RAP SINGERS!
