Akon - Take a Chance
Artist: Akon
Featuring: Clinton Sparks
Producer: David Guetta
Album: Untitled (TBD)
Label: Konvict/Upfront/SRC/Universal Motown
Are you ready to party, Booth readers? Personally, I’m not quite there – but that probably has something to do with the fact that it’s 10:00 AM as I write this, and I’m still nursing my morning coffee. Be that as it may, I can easily imagine the impact of Akon‘s latest offering, Take a Chance, on a crowd of liquored-up partygoers – simply put, this joint has energy for days. Kon’s Sexy B*tch collaborator, David Guetta, mans the boards here, backing the headliner’s Auto-Tune-soaked account of a “once in a lifetime” night out with a driving combo of four-on-the-floor percussion and bubblegum-pop synths. Mixtape heavyweight Clinton Sparks handles guest duties, jumping on the mic to provide some subdued backing vocals on the chorus. Like what you’re hearing? SRC Records has confirmed that this record will not be on Akon’s fourth full-length, Stadium, but it could very well turn up on another forthcoming project. Guess you’ll just have to keep it locked to the Booth for further details – that, or Take a Chance on missing out. And you wouldn’t want that, would you?

After "Sexy B*tch" I have a feeling we might never, ever hear Akon anywhere but the clubs. Who gets that same feeling? Just me?
Regardless of what direction Kon is heading in with his music, I know that two folks I'd like by my musical side are David Guetta and Clinton Sparks. |

Z, I think every big R&B/Pop and Pop artist is heading that way. If you have listened to mainstream music within the last three years, you'll see a major movement. The club movement.
This is a movement where club and house beats become mainstream, and are all over the billboard charts. Even rappers are using house beats in their music. Just take a look at Luda's smash "How Low". |

that intro sounds like a stadium enviornment. im betting this was meant to be on the Stadium album whether it makes it or not.
all in all, for Akon, im not impressed. its not a bad song, but i keep high expectations for Akon singles. also, i wonder how much of Akon's upcoming album will be produced by Guetta and possibly other house DJ's. |

I normally steer a way from the pop/dance stuff but, since all of my gigs are at my freinds party's, and all of my freinds are other teenagers from the suburbs this will definetly find it's way into my set.

Not really a fan of this. Even though Sexy B*tch has been over played to death, id still rather hear that in the club then this.
David Guetta has been producing some heat lately, though this isnt his best work. 2.5 |

Nothing groundbreaking here... Akon x Guetta Poppy Club Smash. Radio/Mainstream will eat it up so much that everyone will hate it in 4 months. Reminds me more of "I Gotta Feeling" than "Sexy @*#$!".

Akon definitely seems to be gearing up to release a pop/dance album. Freedom was already going that way and Sexy B!tch sealed the deal... Though I prefer R&B Akon, this is pretty rockin. D Guettas everywhere at the moment, he's definitely a defining force in the future of pop/mainstream music, I just hope his style doesn't kill off all the R&B singers (I'm looking at you Usher and Ne-yo!) 3.5 stars

Great dance track; Akon seems geared up for these club hits now; wouuld've liked to see more Clinton Sparks though; I can only barely hear him crooning in the background.
D-Guetta definitely knows how to make a pop hit; he's bringing his Euro-influences over to American music now. I can definitely see myself jamming out to this at the club. |

Tried and tested... No really I played it at a gig on the weekend and people enjoyed it. That's all this is... Enjoyable... It's funny this Superstar DJ's and hip-hop star thing. Because both of their most hardcore fans are quietly against the combo...

Sigh. Looks like we have another "the clubs will ear this up but I personally don't want anything to do with" record, which is always hard to rate. I won't be listening again, but I have to give Akon props for doing it well. Um...let's go three stars.
(p.s. - The days of Akon's "konvict" songs are over.) |

This is a weak attempt from Akon, you can see why it didn’t make the album.

here in Europe, this "movement" took over a couple of years ago, in almost every song you can hear Pitbull or Akon or FloRida, and of course David Guetta's productions are the trendsetters.... even tho I hear so many voices sayin that he's totally FAKE, that he's actually 'buying' his productions from a few unknown (but very talented) guys...
and yes, the Swedish house mafia track with Pharrell ("one")... :-D mane this is like the top of that movement... Pharrell works with trance-music-"artists" :-0 unbelievable |
