Aion Clarke - I'm Coming
Artist: Aion Clarke
Producer: Bryan-Michael Cox
Album: Bryan-Michael Cox & Aion Clarke Present: THE LEAKS
Label: Blackbaby Recordings, LLC.
I was going to dance around the obvious sexual innuendo in the title of Aion Clarke‘s Booth debut, for fear of sounding Beavis & Butthead-esque, but the emphatic “Unh… unh! “ ad-libs that open I’m Coming broke my will be mature, so… huh, huh… coming. Phew – glad I got that out of my system. In actuality, the T-dot crooner’s latest single is more grown-and-sexy than it is outright freaky. Bryan-Michael Cox crafts a beat as complex as it is sensual, blending glossy synths and percussion so reverb-drenched as to evoke crashing waves, and Clarke turns in a seductive vocal performance to match. Backed by his own falsetto harmonies, he pours out his feelings to a chick who’s been playing hard-to-get for far too long: “First time we met, you were so damn shy / nothing could break the tension between you and I…” As the record comes to a close, the artist surveys his work with approval, concluding, “This is real R&B.” Agree with his self-assessment? Then you can find plenty more where this came from on Bryan-Michael Cox & Aion Clarke Present: THE LEAKS, available now online.

The record starts off a little slow, but it picks up quickly. Leave it to BMC to work with a talented R&B up-in-comer like Aion. The songwriting skills and production accompaniment are both fitting, and the vocals are solid but not spectacular. Aion has room for growth, but he shows plenty here.

Decent song, but nothing that really grabs you.

I have to agree with the consensus here. There's room to grow, Aion needs to continue to develop a more unique style, but this shows a lot of promise. Nothing but quality here.

I mean it's solid, but it doesn't grab me enough. 2 1/2

It's definitely not the strongest effort from "The Leaks", it gets outshone by "Do you right" and "Love Affair", but still solid as hell.
Yet again, just like with Sterling Simms' "Scream", I can't understand how people can call this an average vocal performance. If you're not impressed by his vocals, you should check out his version of "Kiss from A Rose". Nevertheless, I hope to see some more Aion Clarke featured on this site in the future, he definitely has potential. |
