Ahmad, it isn’t every day that I say something like this, but welcome back to making good music; Ja Rule, take notes from someone doing it right. Now in all honestly I had to check it twice (thanks to the hip-hop encyclopedia that is Refined Hype), but Ahmad is indeed the same man who gave us the classic Back in the Day well, back in the day, and is now delivering his first Booth feature today with Get Some Money & Go to Jail. The vibrant production, which sounds like an Outkast experiment gone right, comes courtesy of E.T. of The Machine Productions, which moves the track along well and sets a foundation for Ahmad’s nothing-but-original delivery and style and Slaughterhouse vet Crooked I’s guest work. Incredibly, the hiatus seems to have worked well for Ahmad, but before we officially call it a comeback listeners will have to deliver their verdict on this track. Unless you’re currently incarcerated, you should be sure to cop his latest project, The Death of Me, due out August 10.

Two people sent me this record and said "yo, you really need to check this out!" This got me hyped. While I have to admit that Ahmad's first Booth feature fell short of my gigantic expectations (you know who you are), I did find it enjoyable. Crooked I spits a cold opening verse, the beat is fun, and Ahmad proves he's back for real this time around.

shiyyyiiittttt, this would absolutely bump in my whip
This hook is so fvckin weird, it seems like a joke, and its funny but i like rappers that have fun on a track (best example is Crooked I's Fireflies freestyle, the ending is fvckin hilarious...I can't hate on a rapper who makes me laugh, minus Gucci) "We need more change than a million cents" I'm all about the quotables today I'll give this a 4 cuz i enjoyed the hook |

It's great to have Amhad back, but even if this was a track from some rapper I'd never heard of I'd be loving it. Good luck getting that beat out of your head, and Ahmad's flow is like none other.
And I have to agree with DJ Rater. This is a more mellow verse than we're used to from Crooked, but that's exactly why I was so impressed. He doesn't have to get loud and angry to sound dope. I'm lovin this track. |
