With his first album since ‘07’s None Shall Pass two months from release, underground icon Aesop Rock returns to our pages with the lead single off the project. Originally released to the ‘net for free download in April, the record finds Ian Matthias Bavitz handling both production and mic duties, weaving a characteristically intricate lyrical web over his own moody, arpeggiated-synth beat. Isaac Ravishankara directs the official visuals, which debuted this morning on MTV2. Skelethon is scheduled for release July 10, via Fifth Element, but those who pre-order now will receive a limited-edition T-Shirt and a special Aesop Rock mix by DJ Shazam Bangles.

This was OK-work. Aesop Rock has a cool sound overall. This is not my type of song though.

Very catchy beat, but I can't really follow the lyrics. The background is just to noisy.

A genius masterpiece by one of the best lyricists of all time. Every word has multiple layers of meaning and metaphore. Discovering what he means and what it means to you is a worthy journey in and of it's self. And sonically it's amazing. I suggest looking up the lyrics and following along. What at first may seem like a random jumble of rhyming words will reveal it's self, by intention, slowly. With references to Shakespeare and classic American literature it may take some research to understand, but it's worth it. Just know this guy does not choose his words lightly, and every part has meaning. The over all theme of this song is about indie rappers trying to get signed, but it's also so much more then that. Finding out what exactly is half the fun.
