Nowadays, it seems like rappers pop up out of nowhere, often biting one another’s styles and creating a whole industry of carbon copied clones. Despite all the parody in the game, there is still Only 1 Ab-Soul. At the beginning of his latest promo single, the TDE emcee pleads, “Don’t worship me, I am not Christ,” but it might be difficult to listen to Ab’s request, as his unique, authentic style is sure to have you praying for more. Over Willie B relentless production, Soul delivers bar after bar with a powerful vocal display and a unique cadence. He even adds a chaotic hook, which hammers home the high-energy, left of center vibe. The Cali native, and close friend of Kendrick Lamar, is prepping for the release of a JMSN collab album, set to drop early next year. Until then, scoop up a copy of Control System, an album the Black Hippy member released earlier this year.
