Ab-Soul - Long Term
Artist: Ab-Soul
Producer: Curtiss King
Album: Long Term 2 Mixtape
Label: Top Dawg Ent.
I’m pretty sure anyone who’s graduated from high school has daydreamed about being the most successful person at their class reunion; you know, arriving in a limo, dazzling everyone with your ten thousand dollar suit, acting like it’s nothing as all of your unrequited teenage crushes vie for your attention… well, I have, anyway – and, judging by mixtape leak/title track, Long Term, King of Carson emcee Ab-Soul has also fantasized about being the envy of all his former classmates. Backed by emcee-producer (and exclusive freestyle series alum) Curtiss King‘s triumphantly brassy sampled boardwork, the West Coast buzzmaker addresses graduates of Carson High and neighboring schools, rhapsodizing about his bright present and brighter future in braggadocio-laced verses. It’s hard to argue with the enthusiasm Ab-Soul showcases here, but is he truly destined to write his name in the pages of history? Only time will tell. In any case, fans should keep it locked for the latest on the artist’s Long Term 2 street album, scheduled to hit the ‘net “soon.”

Yesterday, "solid" was my word of the today. Today, I think "fresh" is without-a-doubt the most overused word in my feedback vocab. But, it applies here. Ab-Soul's flow is a little rough around the edges, but you can't deny his enthusiasm, and charismatic flow. Plus, major props on the upbeat production via Curtiss King.

The production on here is right up my ally, but Ab-Soul doesn't really live up to its potential, or his on this track.

This has it's moments [Good & Bad]. The backdrop is rotation quality, but I'm not sure Soul seizes my ear enough to warrant SOLID rotation. It's definitely not due to as Z points out effort.

There's an abundance of mellowed out music on the Booth today, and I'm digging all of it. Next time I got a barbecue this is definitely going on in the background - it would go great with a burger and a Corona.

The flow is pretty good, can't say I'm crazy about the rhymes. Production, to me its above average but just a little something missing. Rotation-Stuff!

A dope throwback to that Pharcydish fun and wordplay!! AB comes with it. Curtiss comes with Illy production and infectious string samples!
