Ah, the Lifestyle of a rapper on the rise: the stratospheric stacks of cash, the adoring groupies, the expensive liquors – huh? That’s not actually how it works? On his latest mixtape leak, Los Angeles native Ab-Soul gives us a glimpse into his unusual position as an up-and-coming emcee on the cusp of his big break, but still struggling to make ends meet: “I’m broke but almost famous, how should I explain this?” Flowing over Sounwave‘s smooth string samples, the MayDay rapper describes how his life has changed since he accompanied Game on his L.A.X Tour (for example, the Crips in his neighborhood now assume he’s a Blood affiliate – now that’s awkward). Fellow West Coast mainstay Jay Rock handles guest duties, suggesting a solution to the headliner’s anxieties: “Twist the swisher up, let’s get high…” Regardless of how tough the going is at the moment, it seems that Ab-Soul’s headed in the right direction – if you agree, you’ll be able to hear plenty more from the Left Coast buzzmaker on his 2DopeBoyz/DJBooth.net-sponsored Long Term 2 mixtape, due out on June 28.

Nice, very nice...A real cool hook and a nice smooth beat. The verse are good, but fail to elevate this track to banger status. Still, pretty darn good.

Ab-Soul is part of the new west coast movement we've been following over here at the Booth. He has lyrics for days and picks great production to complement his style. I am a fan.

Despite the fact that everytime I see Soundwave's name I think it's misspelled (not Soundwave?), the man consistently puts together smoothly grinding beats. Respect.
There's two levels of real rap. Rappers who say they're keeping it real while blatantly lying (90%), and rappers who actually speak about their life (Ab-Soul). And what's better, he makes it sounds damn good. Respect. |

Relaxing beat. Both dudes sound good on this. This needs some more energy on it though.

Ab-Soul & Jay Rock are quite the duo! Liking this (most notably the smooth vibe). Dope! Really hoping both these cats blow up!

the lyrics were good. the verses got better as the song went on. The beat sounds like that of a classic. I don't think this will be a classic but i think he probably can release a classic eventually.

Ab-Soul has better tracks than this. I think the production dod him wrong on this one because hes still very much lyrically potent.
