50 Cent - We Up
Artist: 50 Cent
Featuring: Kendrick Lamar
Producer: Davaughn
Album: Street King Immortal
Label: Shady/Aftermath/Interscope
This past July, 50 Cent released New Day, a beefed-up Alicia Keys single that featured additional accompaniment from Dr. Dre. Despite Curtis’ powerful collaborators and his longtime track record, the single made little noise. Then in November, the rap tycoon treated fans to the Eminem and Adam Levine-assisted My Life, which again despite it’s A-List feature nods failed to catapult Fiddy to the top of the charts. Two months later, after the calender had flipped to 2013, 50 unleashed the sure-to-hit, ironically-titled Major Distribution, which boasted accompaniment from fellow veterans Snoop Dogg and Young Jeezy. And… yeah, you know the rest. Now, with no release date in sight for his Street King Immortal album, the G-Unit head honcho has leaked We Up, featuring label signee Kidd Kidd and everyone’s favorite rapper Kendrick Lamar. Does this move mean that 50 is willing to take a backseat, no freestyle, to Mr. good kid, m.A.A.d city? Probably not, but one listen to We Up and it’s clear that 50 is to Kendrick, like T.I. was to Andre 3000 on Sorry. But hey, whatever works.
Update: Interscope has released an updated version of the single, no longer featuring a guest verse from Kidd Kidd, which can be heard in the Eif Rivera-directed visuals.

Major Distribution was a flat out failure. It's been a long time since 50 was so called "On." I personally think he stepped it up here. I can't say that I am fan of Kidd Kidd, but between the beat, 50, and Kendrick, I think he was able to sell it. I'd buy a 50 album with this released as a single. I wouldn't buy an album with "Major Distribution" as a single. When you've evolved to be such a known person, you shouldn't result to "fake" rhymes about still selling drugs when that isn't the case. Anyhow, I enjoyed this track. If he kept this pace, I think he could sell. But then again maybe 50 and Em have had their time because for Em, everything after the Eminem Show and 8 mile soundtrack was pure garbage. (except the nick cannon diss)

I really like this joint. If Mr. half a dolla hadn't been shot so many times i would've gave up on him already, but he's trying to hang on.

Not bad. Chill track, 50 was okay. Kendrick did his thing, clearly overshadowing Fif. Kidd Kidd was unnecessary, 50 should have just done a second verse. Still I doubt that this will get 50 the hit he's looking for.

It's not bad. It didn't HIT me the way a huge record or a great song does, but I can see it growing on me.

Wasn't too impressed with this, the only thing I thought was decent was the chorus because it flowed well. Scratches (?) at the end sounded like skips/stutters, none of the verses had any good rhymes or clever lines. You don't learn much of anything from this song other than the fact that they're prospering; they're just spitting about random stuff without much coordination.

50 is trying to match his performance on GRoDT. He's not there yet, but I'll be damned if he doesn't come close.

Actually think that 50 cent shines on this track both on the verse and the hook. Kendrick Lamar also has a strong verse. Kidd holds his own. Nice chill beat, Devaughn does an amazing job of mixing the different beats on this track. Great hook. 3.5 stars.

50 did a good job with this. He has to be the smartest rapper besides Diddy. He took Kidd Kidd off and just added another verse to follow up Kendricks. Now its a good leading single. I just hope a project comes from it.
