Trying to get the creative juices flowing as he waits for the perpetually-delayed Before I Self Destruct to finally drop, 50 Cent has decided to return to the gritty underground style that first earned him respect in the NYC streets.  To that end, he will be releasing three underground, pre-album mixtapes—the first of which,  the War Angel LP, hits the Net on Tuesday at 9PM EST.  50’s hardcore roots are on full display on the LP’s third track, Redrum (Murder). I dare you to name another rapper who can put together lyrics as grimy and hard-hitting as the rhymes 50 spits over Nascent and QB Da Problem‘s sample of LaToya Jackson’s Does It Really Matter!  Though the War Angel LP‘s tagline warns us to “Prepare for Total Destruction,” a more realistic outcome would be the restoration of 50 Cent’s alienated fanbase—something he desperately needs in anticipation of his fourth LP’s tentative September release.

Now this is the 50 Cent I remember telling all my friends about. Forget Scott Storch beats and records with minimal appeal to anywhere but Top 40 radio- those are not how this man went diamond on his debut. You'll all be impressed with this mixtape...

I'm definitely glad a harder 50 track is out because w/all his arrogance this is goin to show why he can have such a cocky swagger to him.

This is the 50 that died right after GRoDT dropped, but he is reincarnated on this track. There ain't nuttin wrong wit sellin millions of records, but this is the 50 that made him Em's favorite rapper in the first place. Gritty verses wit some decent lines and a grimy hook that you can chant along to. This is a good street record.

Liked "Ok ok ok you're right" more but this ain't bad. In my opinion, 50 often lives or dies by the beat; and in this case, the beat works so the song works.

50 cent is no lyrical gem--far from it. But what he does have is a gruff but flexible voice (he's a smooth sounding tenor when he wants to sing). Combine his voice with some solid production and you're almost guaranteed to see some heads nod.

3.5

I've been a 50 Cent hater here lately, but secretly, I've been patiently waiting for "Before I Self Destruct" to drop!!

This is the old 50 i remember!!
Get Rich Or Die Trying was a classic album and this sounds like it BUT not quite as good as tracks on that album!!
This is good and BETTER than any of his singles he has dropped in the past couple of months!!

I didnt like 'OK, Your Right' & im not a big fan of this. While 50 is decent, the beat is just to generic for me to put this in my rotation. I personally think another Aftermath artist named Bishop Lamont would of made a much more enjoyable track out of the production.

I am very interested to see how this War Angle LP sounds

I have extremely mixed feelings on this one. I knew how I felt about "Ok, You're Right," because I didn't like it. But this one has good qualities and some really...not good qualities. Overall, it has to be three stars, but the bad outweighs the good just a tad. He can still come harder, he knows it, and I know it.

Agreed with the blurb, those lyrics were HARD and GRIMY. Loved the flow on here over the beat, just was a little dissapointed with the hook. Fiddy sounds like he's spitting with his mouth wired shut like Kanye did on his first single LOL. Overall though, hot street record. I'll download the "free album" (mixtape) tomorrow.

Yeah I was just going to say something about how his voice sounds a little more tight than usual cb126495. This is the best thing I've heard from 50 since anything off of The Massacre. I think with the response he got from the last two singles he released he realized that he had to step up his game a lot. His lyrics are a lot better also, makes me wonder if he's getting some help from Eminem...just a thought.

Man..this song was creepy as @*#$! to me. The slightly out of key backing vocals, the Redrum chorus, 50's monstrously bassy voice weaving tails of blood, death, and casual murder...well frankly it freaked me out...I actually turned on my lights. Can you imagine if DMX had been a feature on this track -- shudder to think how many hues of horror they could explore together. Anyways, it's a good song -- just not my cup of tea.
