Though Before I Self Destruct is set to mark 50 Cent‘s return to the darkly melodic style that made him Eminem‘s favorite underground MC, the Interscope brass aren’t about to give him the green light till he comes out with a mainstream hit. Today, we in the Booth proudly present what may well be the single that gets BISD (finally) onto store shelves! Though some might decry Baby By Me as a “sellout move,” 50’s always been flexible when it comes to getting hits. Two versions were premiered by Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97; here we have the “remix,” which finds Ne-Yo delivering a sung hook over Polow Da Don‘s beat (featuring a sample from 50’s own I Get Money). Was 50 right to work the pop-rap angle in hopes of making Before I Self-Destruct‘s November 17th release date stick? Let the debate begin…

As someone whose hated all of 50's output since Curtis with few exceptions, this is a banger and should serve to be 50's most successful single in a while. Maybe BISD won't suck after all. :D

I have no problem with any rapper having a go at these 'pop rap' tracks. Especially when they come out sounding like this.
I enjoyed the production from Polow, the hook from Ne-Yo was good and 50 came with some decent rhymes, though the the rappers performance hardly matters on these 'pop rap' tracks (ask 2 Pistols (on 'She Got It')). Should be a hit. I liked the idea of the sample, though on this remix it sounds out of place imo. |

yo yo i heard this earlier today, but i didnt know if it was a finished version. i was hopin it was so im glad to see it on the booth so quickly.
Yes, Burmy it was a great idea to work this angle to make the release date stick. w/out a radio hit, it would jus continue to get pushed back. so, watever angle gets him mainstream success is a good idea to follow through on for a hit. as for the song, if u havent noticed me hinting at it, yep..... its a hit. Not a major hit though, but it will get major attention from radio. 50 came w/sick flow, Ne-Yo was impressive as usual, but 50's part on the chorus is the weakness... to me. o ya and Polow came through on this too! BANGER! |

Wow I really dug this from 50. I don't think I've listened to any of his recent mixtape tracks except for maybe some that were featured on here that I haven't listened to since. But I really liked this. The production was a nice suit for 50 and I really like him flowing like this. Reminds me of his flow on that one Ciara song ("Can't Leave Me Alone" or something. The song was ok but I thought he had some tight verses). Ne-Yo is one of my favorite hook-singers. His voice is always so fresh. Banger!

I LOVE it, just what 50 needed, was wondering when he was gonna stop dissing people and put out R&B assisted tracks like 21 Questions. Now all we need is a new Candy Shop....

Thank God!!! 0_o I thought I'd never like a 50 song anymore since "The Massacre"!
Production is great as to expect from Polow (energetic, melodic in the right, catchy proportions, sick percussion) Ne-Yo is Ne-Yo (smooth vocals)... but, more importantly, 50 IS 50!!! The flow is BACK and everything he says sounds better! |

Okay first off I just want to say that the stuff that is coming off of his LP's is dope. Second, this is way dope, it's solid. 50's flow on the song is classic. At first I thought this was going to be a Ne-Yo track with a guest feature by 50, but it's the other way around. Production is classic, flow is classic and lyrics are solid. Hope this blows up, I really WANT to see BISD sometime this year.

For 50 cent, this is garbage! The production is so far from 50's style, it doesn't work at all. Ne-Yo and 50 should never collabo. Decent lyrics though, I see the old classic flow showing through as well.

First off all, the production on this record is crazy! Polow is really on top of his game right now. Nice breezy Ne-Yo collabo, he always comes hard on his guest features. However, i feel like 50 just continually declines in quality...50 used to be able to produce hits without R&b guest features. I actually preferred I get It In & Get Up to this, and im surprised they didnt take off as much as they did. However this should guarentee 50 a surefire hit, and hopefully this track will grow on me once we get a better quality version!

Polow Da Don always bring hot tracks. Ne-Yo is fire on a R&B hook. I just think 50's needs to do something to remind the game why he is still relevant. This track is not a big surprise.

this is what being a part of interscope records does. If they think your records wont sell they put a pop artist on the hooks...i dont blame 50 for this not his choice....but the song is blazing i've been rotating this since it came out....very good effort. i'm buyin d album for sure

The production is saying “Radio will spin it. Ladies will dig it. Clubs will eat this up.” Neyo plays his part smoothly on hook. And while both Producer and Feature Guest hands you a HIT, it still lacks the power it could've had. Is it just me, or 50 could have been way better with his rhymes on this track?
No, I’m not saying it should have been a “Free Tibet” track or even political in anyway. To be exact his verses on here are the types that must've received the 'trash bin' treatment for his past singles. You don’t have to be the most lyrical emcee on Radio-joints but at least try to put some effort into it and not just completely rely on production and hook . With all his experience, it amazes me that Fiddy's vocabulary is still the same since day one. That being said, i might listen to it again but mostly just because I like the beat by Polow and Neyo Kills it! .... Rotation fa sho! [Resume playing Ludacris' "What Them Girls Like"] |

Fif's got him a hit right here. I'm glad Interscope's forcing him to make hot songs now. But 50's verses are just there. Ludacris could've done the verses and made this song WAY HOTTER! This song's hot because of Polow Da Don's production, Ne-Yo's hook, and 50's "I Get Money" sample. Fif's verses did not bring the song down but Luda's verses could've made this song better. With this song and "OK, You're Right" BISD is looking alright... but what about the rest of it.
