Young Money’s “America’s Most Wanted” Tour Rocks Milwaukee’s Marcus Amphitheater [Exclusive]
Milwaukee, WI -- Though Sept. 1 marked the beginning of the school year for most Milwaukee natives, the season's last hurrah occurred a day later—on the evening of Wednesday, the 2nd, locals looking to end the summer on a high note headed down to Henry Maier Festival Park's Marcus Amphitheater to catch Lil Wayne's Young Money-presented America's Most Wanted Tour on the fourth-to-last stop in its July 27th—September 6th run.
Jeremih was first to take the stage, beginning his set with a rendition of his motivational hook and verse from Fabolous' “It's My Time.” His skilled and beautiful backup dancers would later join him for a medley of his three favorite tracks off his self-titled debut album: single “Imma Star (Everywhere We Are),” “Break Up to Make Up,” and Booth-incubated early-summer anthem “Birthday Sex." Next up was Pleasure P, who warmed up his predominantly female audience with some classic Pretty Ricky-era jams before launching into Introduction of Marcus Cooper singles “Under” and “Did You Wrong." Finally, Pleasure closed his set with a rendition of smash hit “Boyfriend #2.”
Soulja Boy and his S.O.D. Money Gang (Arab, J-Bar, 350, and Lil PlayBoii) kicked off the rap portion of the evening, hyping the crowd up with hits like “Donk,” “Gucci Bandana,” “Kiss Me Thru the Phone,” and “Turn My Swag On.” Soon afterwards, Young Jeezy hit the stage in his typical attire (all-black outfit, Locs sunglasses, and a "103" chain), accompanied by CTE signee/Milwaukee native Ray Rizzy. After running through several favorites off The Recession, Jeezy got the whole crowd rapping along with a rousing performance of “Put On.” Following a short intermission, the rapper returned to the stage to wrap up his set with the help of a live band, performing Inspiration singles “I Luv It” and “Go Getta” and closing with a cellphone-illuminated rendition of “Soul Survivor.”
Next, Lil Wayne made his grand entrance, starting off with a live band-backed performance of DJ Drama's “Cannon (Remix),” complete with ear-splitting cannon accompaniment. After getting the crowd moving with Carter III mega-hits “A Milli” and “Got Money,” Weezy shared his artist's creed with the audience: "I believe in God. Do y'all? I ain't sh*t without y'all, so make noise for what you created! I. Ain't. SH*T. WITHOUT. Y'ALL, so MAKE NOISE FOR WHAT YOU CREATED!" Later, the crowd erupted into birdcalls as Birdman took the stage to accompany his adopted son on “We Takin' Over,” “I Run This,” and "Always Strapped.”
The highlight of the night, however, was when Weezy introduced his Young Money all-star team; Lil Twist, Lil Chuckee, T-Streets, Gudda Gudda, Jae Millz, and Tyga each made their entrance to roars of audience approval, but the crowd saved their loudest cheers for the label's newest official signee—the energy peaked when Nicki Minaj hit the stage in her blue one-piece latex outfit to perform her infamous "Itty Bitty Piggy" freestyle (over the "Donk" beat). Finally, Weezy led the crowd in a “Best I Ever Had” reprise, encouraging fans to pray for Drake as he underwent his surgery and rehabilitation.
Once again performing solo, Weezy kept the crowd moving with a few more tracks off Carter III, including “Mrs. Officer,” “Comfortable,” and #1 megahit “Lollipop.” Though the atmosphere became considerably more somber during Hurricane Katrina lament ”Tie My Hands,” the hip-hop superstar ended the night on a much more upbeat note. For the grand finale, Millz, Gudda, and Mack Maine joined Weezy to send attendees off with a climactic performance of Young Money smash “Every Girl,” complete with an audience rendition of Drake's verse.
The America's Most Wanted tour concluded this past Sunday, September 6th at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
