Wiz Khalifa Lights Up New York City [Exclusive Coverage]

Last Friday was a good night to be a hip-hop fan in New York City. Wiz Khalifa, leader of the Taylor Gang, rocked the house at the Fillmore. With the always wonderful Jasmine Solano on the wheels and an eye opening first performance from Yelawolf, the night was truly one to remember.
The show itself was sold out; a large turnover from his last show in NYC which still had tickets for sale at the door. Scalpers were a plenty on the streets as people scrambled to get into the party. The crowd was diverse and showed the true versatility and reach of the new generation of internet-focused hip-hop artists. Inside, the atmosphere was buzzing and, um, "cloudy" to say the least.
Starting off the show, Yelawolf easily made a large number of new fans here in New York with a rousing performance. Performing his hits as Mixin up the Medicine, Box Chevy and I Wish. People who did not know who this man was prior to show, became fans afterwards.
New York is always a hard venue to rock for up and coming artists, but Wiz looked like a 10 year veteran, commanding the crowd with skill, making sure the entire building was on the same page, and providing enough energy to ensure everyone remained lively and heavily responsive.
In terms of his set, Wiz performed for significantly longer than his last trip to the greatest city on Earth, and performed hits from his surprisingly deep catalog. Say Yeah, Ink My Whole Body and The Thrill were amongst the litany of crowd pleasers that he killed. He also performed a new song from his upcoming mixtape "Kush and Orange Juice called “Keep One Rolled”. Judging by the response from the crowd, it is sure to be a hit.
If this concert is any indication, Wiz Khalifa is definitely on the rise. We can only guess how big he'll be a year from now.
