The Road to SXSW: Shane Eli
The DJBooth is proud to announce that Shane Eli will be rocking on our stage for this year's SXSW music festival in Austin. Born in Canada and raised in both the Bahamas and L.A., Shane Eli is a producer, rapper, songwriter, music instructor and modern day renaissance man. After graduating college on a football scholarship, Eli decided to devote his time and energy to producing music. A self-taught musician with no formal training, he draws on his diverse background and an eclectic music collection – ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to The Clash to Danger Mouse - to craft his distinct and highly versatile sound.
Shane Eli has released two independent albums, The Push and I Can Do Better, which he wrote, performed and produced entirely by himself. His music has been placed on episodes of CSI, Friday Night Lights and No Ordinary Family, he completed an original score for the independent British feature film Pulp. As a producer and songwriter Eli has worked with artists ranging from Slumerican representative Rittz to six-time Grammy Award winning funk legends, Earth, Wind & Fire.

Have you previously performed at SXSW?
Yes, performed last year at the 2Dope X DJBooth showcase, and it was a cool experience, but I've never been on the official roster before. It's an honor to get to rock on the same stage as a lot of the folks I really admire and respect. I'm excited.
What are you looking forward to most about the experience?
Last year was really cool, but it was overwhelming, there is so much going on down there that it's tough to take in everything. I think this year I'm a bit more prepared for it, so I'm really looking forward to building and maintaining relationships, seeing folks I haven't seen in a minute and really just tearing up the stage.
What fellow artists are you most excited to see perform?
I'm really excited to see Rittz do his thing live. Saw him a few months ago out here in LA and he killed it, now that I have a record on his latest project (Walking on Air), I'm excited to see him do it live.
What are you working on in the weeks/months to come that our readers/your fans should know about?
Well, I have a big remix contest going on with Reverb Nation and The DJBooth called The Flip that wraps up at the end of the month. I'm gonna be putting out a video for a record called Us Vs. Them I dropped a few weeks ago, and I'll be working on my third album #EnoughLove, which should drop in May.
If you'll be in Austin on Saturday, March 17, you'll want to check out DJBooth's SXSW stage, featuring Freeway, Skyzoo, Thurz and many more. For all things SXSW, including information on purchasing passes, check out A3CFestival.com.
