Soulja Boy Tell’em Says ‘Don’t Get Mad Cause the Kids Like Me’

Filed Under: Albums, Singles          by DJ Z on Oct 15, 2007

Santa Monica, Calif., -- Having conquered the download world and the ringtone universe, 17-year-old rap phenomenon Soulja Boy Tell'em racked up the best first week of sales for a new R&B/Hip-hop artist in 2007 with Souljaboytellem.com (ColliPark Music/Interscope Records), released October 2nd and featuring the street anthem "Crank That (Soulja Boy)."

Soulja Boy's debut album entered the Billboard Top 200 chart at #4 and R&B/Hip-hop charts at #1, with sales of 117,262 copies (Billboard, October 20 issue). Not surprisingly, http://www.souljaboytellem.com/ has also become the most viewed artist site on the Web.

"I feel real good about my album's first week numbers," said Soulja Boy Tell'em. "All the talk from haters of me being a ring-tone rapper isn't true. I'm here to stay and this is only the beginning."

"Crank That (Soulja Boy)" also remains #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the fifth week. The track first hit #1 as a Digital Single in early September, when it also became the #1 Master Tone in the country. "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" is still #1 on both the Digital Single and Ringtone charts. More than 1,900,000 ringtones have been sold to date, with 200,000 being purchased each week.

As the rapper says on the album's "Don't Get Mad": "Don't get mad cause the kids like me."
