The Road to SXSW: The League of Extraordinary Gz
The DJBooth is proud to announce that the The League of Extraordinary Gz will be rocking on our stage for this year's SXSW musis festival in Austin. While devoted fans of Hip-Hop mourn a genre and culture, a revolution has been quietly building deep in the heart of Texas. Three separate but equally acclaimed independent rap groups in Austin, Texas, recognizing a shared passion for raw musicality, have teamed to become what promises to be a defining group in Texas rap history: The League of Extraordinary Gz.
The lineup of “LOEGz” consists of the groups C.O.D., Dred Skott, and Southbound, all familiar faces in the underground Texas rap circuit. With their respective mixtape and album releases, they have each earned themselves significant fan bases . All are artists who paid their dues the hard way, winning over huge audiences while opening up for major Hip Hop acts such as Method Man, Killer Mike, David Banner, Dead Prez, and Z-ro.
DJBooth Hosted Projects: Concealed Weapons 3.
Have you previously performed at SXSW?
Most definitely. With Austin being our hometown, we have been fortunate enough to be official showcasing artists since 2010. Prior to that, each of the three groups that make up the LOEGz all participated in some aspect. It was shortly after the 2009 festival that we all decided to unite our individual movements and come together to form The League of Extraordinary Gz. SXSW definitely played a role in that decision.
In the past our official showcases have generally been Texas/Down South themed, so we're looking forward to rocking the stage this year at the DJBooth x A3C showcase with all the other dope acts that have been enlisted.
What are you looking forward to most about the experience?
The people experience, no doubt. It's a time of the year where we witness our city transform into this huge melting pot of artists, journalists, industry folks, and music lovers from all parts of the world who have come in the name of music. As artists, we are able to network with other artists and tastemakers and build relationships that can help us on our journey. Case and point, last year's SXSW was when we were first introduced to The DJBooth.
So yeah, just being able to interact with all the people in an environment centered around music is what we always look forward to this time of the year. Plus you just never know who you may run into or who that random person you are talking may be.
What fellow artists are you most excited to see perform?
Man this could be a long list. But if you asked everyone individually they would all agree on Rittz for sure. We jammed White Jesus religiously over the summer driving city to city when we were touring with Dead Prez and still have not had a chance to see him live. So Rittz for sure. We got introduced to Jon Conner's music while out in ATL for A3C and were excited to see him on the DJBooth x A3C showcase.
Other major acts would have to include Nas, T.I., Mobb Deep, Black Hippy, G-Side, Action Bronson, Killer Mike, and K.R.I.T. Also we are excited to see a lot of our homies that we have worked with perform like Shane Eli, Doughbeezy, Kydd, Worldwide, Killa Kyleon, Swisha House and The Niceguys.
What are you working on in the weeks/months to come that our readers/your fans should know about?
We are dropping a SXSW music sampler on 3/6 that includes a compilation of previously released tracks since dropping our Concealed Weapons 3 project on The DJBooth last May. We also threw a few unreleased tracks from some of our upcoming projects on there to give fans a preview of what's coming.
Then in May we are planning to release our debut album #LeagueShit. It's been a work in progress but it is definitely lining up to a be dope album that includes features from Dead Prez, Devin the Dude, Killa Kyleon and Jackie Chain. Outside of the album we also got a few projects that we plan to release later this year that include Dred Skott's W420, Tuk and S.dot's follow up Whiteboy 2 Mixtape, Lil J's solo project and Lowkey's Southbound & Down project.
We are also working on a couple of EP projects with some dope producers like CyFyre out of Htown, Frank Dukes from Toronto, and Shane Eli from LA. It's going to be a busy year for us.
If you'll be in Austin on Saturday, March 17, you'll want to check out DJBooth's SXSW stage, featuring Freeway, Skyzoo, Thurz and many more. For all things SXSW, including information on purchasing passes, check out A3CFestival.com.
