New York, NY -- KOCH Records is excited to announce the release of Diplomats crew member 40 Cal. and his brand new album, "Broken Safety 2," to be released on September 11th, 2007.

40 Cal., a member of Harlem-based group The Diplomats (aka Dipset), first appeared with the self-titled theme song "40 Cal." on the Dipset album "Diplomatic Immunity, Vol. 2" (2004). He moved onto numerous Dipset releases including DukeDaGod's "More Than Music Vol. 1" (2005) and "More Than Music Vol. 2" (2007). 40 Cal.'s reputation is built on his notable rhyme-battling skills, captured on MTV2's "Fight Klub" MC battles. The competition allowed 40 Cal. to display his street-level approach and flow -- a dose of lethal metaphors combined with his gangsta braggadocio. 40 Cal. earned the nickname "Mr. Rewind That" as a moniker reflecting his abilities to spit metaphors, causing hip-hop heads to "rewind" just to catch the reference.

With his own solo mixtapes, 40 Cal. has made a name for himself, selling several thousand units on his own. Beginning in 2006, he stepped up his exposure, releasing mixtapes to be sold nationally including "Broken Safety" for Cleopatra Records, and most recently "Broken Safety 2" for Babygrande Records. 40 holds more than the usual swagger to substantiate his claim, having amassed street-based mixtape sales of 50,000+ units.

Now joining the fold at KOCH Records, whose roster includes fellow Dipset members Jim Jones, J.R. Writer, Hell Rell and DukeDaGod, 40 Cal. stands poised to deliver his highly anticipated full length debut album.

In response to Nas' declaration that hip-hop is dead, Cal wrote a track slamming Nas and his "tired music." To Cal, the art form is still vibrant; one simply needs to know where to look. The man speaks with optimism: "Any music form is gonna change, gonna evolve," Cal explains.
