Hip-Hop’s Finest Turn Out for Billboard Magazine’s Oscar Party [Event Exclusive]

Christina Milian

Glitz. Glamour. Turntables. The Oscar awards took a decidedly fresh turn Sunday night as Children Uniting Nations hosted its annual awards dinner and Oscar viewing party at the posh Beverly Hills Hilton. Co-hosted by Billboard magazine, the event drew some of hip-hop and R&B’s most recognizable faces for a night of red carpet magic, mixed with a serious dose of fun-filled partying. And of course, DJBooth was there in its finest suit to cover all the celebrity-fueled fun.

Unlike its sister event at the Kodak Theatre, the celebrities at this party were there to honor more than movies. Children Uniting Nations is a non-profit group dedicated to providing mentors to children in foster homes, and it just so happens that some of their most ardent supporters are from the hip-hop community.

”So many kids, they look up to Beyonce and Jay-Z, but we need to provide these kids with role models that tell them to just be themselves,” said Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels of the legendary rap crew Run DMC.

A foster child himself, McDaniels took home an award of his own for his tireless work supporting CUN.

West coast legend Ice-T, with wife and Playboy bunny Coco in tow, was also there to receive an award for his philanthropic efforts.

“Man, who ever thought I’d be receiving an award for working with kids?” said Ice-T. “But then who thought I’d ever be playing a cop on TV.”

But it was Oscar night, and that means one thing; beautiful women in expensive dresses. DJBooth got the chance to talk at length with the always beautiful Christina Milian, who revealed she’s hard at work on her new album, rumored to drop in late 2008.

”I don’t want to say when the release date is, but we’re definitely going to have a single for the summer,” she said. “Something sexy, something fun.”

Milian went on to reveal that the album will be produced primarily by J.R. Rotem and production team Cool and Dre, but she insisted on keeping the guest feature list under wraps.

No party is complete without some late night dancing, and guest artists DJ Spinderella and Tiffany did more than their part to make sure everyone celebrated Hollywood’s biggest night in full hip-hop style. The line between musicians and actors is becoming thinner by the minute, and Sunday night it completely disappeared.
