New York, N.Y. -- Last Friday marked the fourth annual Heineken Red Star Soul Music Showcase in New York City, featuring performances by Wale, Estelle and Ludacris, as well as an unforeseen appearance by the legendary Nas.

Gotham Hall housed the affair, which included reality celebrity pop-ins from the likes of Consequence, NBA and NFL personalities galore, and comedy sets by Godfrey C. Danchimah. Wale opened the show, pumping the crowd up with a rousing rendition of “Chillin’" before ceding the mic to hip-hop veteran Biz Markie, who brought the house down with his classic single, “Just a Friend.” Estelle, the glam goddess, was up next, sporting gold and black with an oh-so-chic white jacket and performing some popular favorites, including “American Boy” and “In the Rain.”

Ludacris showed his more reserved, soulful side throughout his set, but kept the crowd entertained nonetheless. After Luda's set, surprise guest Nas made his way to the stage. Attendees began to make their way to the front to capture the moment as he performed hits including “The World is Yours” and “New York State of Mind." Following Nas' set, Ludacris closed the show with “One More Drink,” an ode to brewed-up fun and the recognition of limits that left the crowd headed home with their ears buzzing with the night's all-star line-up of hip-hop power. I can't promise every show will be this stellar, but definitely keep your eye out for a Red Star Soul event in a city near you. Heineken never disappoints.
