From the Bay to L.A.: E-40 Parties to Promote His New Album
Los Angeles, CA -- Last night Bay Area legend E-40 (aka 40-Water, aka E-Fizzle, aka E-Fonzerelli, you get the idea) held an exclusive listening party for his upcoming album, the aptly titled The Ball Street Journal, at the Los Angeles hotspot Life. Sponsored by Warner Bros. Records, Mr. 40’s new major label home, the release party featured knocking music and flowing drinks, thanks in no small part to an open bar that this correspondent may have indulged in to heavily. Free drinks aside, the night was full of chest-rattling beats, celebrity appearances (the infamous Ray-J to name one) and liberal doses of 40 working his way through the crowd, rhyming along to his own songs like a man in love.
Coming on the heels of his national breakthrough, My Ghetto Report Card, fans have anxiously awaited The Ball Street Journal, largely to see how he would balance his newfound national fame with his Yay Area roots. Based on the album’s sneak preview, the answer is that much like his native Golden Gate, 40 has bridged the gap between the Bay Area and the rest of America rather nicely. The night started off with the T-Pain assisted Give Her The Keys, an addictively catchy song that’s guaranteed serious airtime (does T-Pain do anything else?). From there it was onto The Ball Street Journal’s lead single Wake It Up, a smoothly paced joint that’s sure to have the ladies dancing in the club. But never fear my Bay Area people, Ball Street contains plenty of Oaklandish flavor, from the Lil Jon’ charged Break Ya Ankles to the ghostride worthy Poor Man’s Hydraulics. Whether 40 can capitalize on Report Card's considerable musical momentum remains to be seen, but last night at least 40 was the undisputed king of the Bay to L.A.
E-40’s answer to the financial crisis, The Ball Street Journal, is slated to drop this fall.
