NEW YORK, NY -- The hip hop culture will be forever immortalized in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12th. New York City’s own Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five will be the first rap group to be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. These legends will finally be inducted after 25 years, with rock super-groups’ R.E.M. & Van Halen.
Mele Mel, writer of the monumental single, The Message, two-time Grammy Award winner and the front man for the Furious Five states, “Hip Hop is long overdue to get its proper recognition with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I’m proud to be finally recognized for the achievements we’ve made within the music industry & pop culture and not just be recognized as Hip Hop pioneers.”
Today, Mele Mel is still active on the Hip Hop scene with consistent shows both locally and abroad. Mel also recently released his independent solo album, “Muscles” and is rumored to be joining the WWE. You can also find more information on Mele Mel at www.melemel.net
