Fat Joe Holds Album Listening Session in New York [Exclusive Coverage]
Article by Mikey Fresh
New York, NY -- Don Cartagena is back. After putting over 15 years into the Hip-Hop game, the Elephant In The Room has demanded his respect.
“I’m always hearing about people talking about the top rappers in the game, and at the same time, I have a number record out. Nobody ever mentions my name. I’m the Elephant in the Room that’s thinking, “NOTICE ME!”” explained Fat Joe at his New York City listening party.
Joe vents heavily on the album’s intro, “Fugitive,” as he addresses all the current rumors circulating around his label, Terror Squad. He also wastes no time jumping into the “N” word discussion and his stance on its use (Nas would be so proud).
If Joey could be at his very best, all-out New York swagger and aggressive rhymes, than the Street Runner-produced “Fugitive” is it.
As the album continues, it includes more and more guest spots. Making their appearance on Elephant are new bloods Lil’ Wayne and Plies and legendary OG’s, KRS-One and DJ Premier.
The Cool and Dre-produced, “Ain’t Nothing” is a ready-radio effort and will assuredly produce BDS spins (should it be released as a single), and the Steve Morales-produced “Crack House” (which features Wayne) is the kind of song you mistakenly play too loud and end up blowing out your car speakers.
Throughout his career the 300-lb plus MC has struggled to receive a strong label backing, despite a countless amount of quality Billboard singles.
Hoping a change of scenery will help, Joey signed with Imperial Records (and their distributor, EMI) before his last album. With the chart-rising single “I Won’t Tell” (featuring R&B crooner, J. Holiday) in tow, it sounds as though we might have another street-corner masterpiece on our hands.
