In The Booth (Volume 2)

New York, NY -- Yesterday, the DJBooth.net Freestyle Series made its hotly-anticipated return to our front page with the release of entry #80, Rock City's "PTFAO & Still Going." Today, we in the Booth, along with fellow urban music/culture destination RubyHornet.com are proud to present the long-awaited second volume of the In the Booth mixtape. Featuring freestyles #31 through 60 in the ongoing series, the tape sees white-hot lyrical talents from hip-hop hotspots across the nation stepping into our DJ Booth to showcase their skills on the mic.

In The Booth (Volume 2) was mixed by DJ RTC, a prominent member of the Chi-town hip-hop community whose resume includes mixtape work with such acclaimed underground/up-and-coming artists as GLC, Naledge. and QuEST. A skilled DJ with four-plus years of experience under his belt, RTC uses a wide variety of techniques to bridge the gap between different sounds, styles, and genres, "I love blends, and I like to incorporate some juggling, and scratches, and cuts... I take the approach of making a wide variety of songs that were most likely recorded without any connection to each other into something cohesive that flows seamlessly."

RTC cites the stylistic, regional, and aural diversity of the series' entries as the chief reason for his attraction to the project, "The artists and music differs on so many levels (style, skills, region, visibility, even sound quality). Some of the artists I was familiar with and knew like Emilio Rojas, Daytona and of course, Pugs Atomz, others I’d never really heard and was like, ‘damn, this guy is dope’ like Kovas, that was refreshing to me as a DJ and as a writer." He considers DJBooth.net "...a peer in Chicago’s hip hop community, as well as the online media community," and states, "To be asked to be a part of this was a sign of respect and I was honored that Z and co. would want to f*ck with me like that."

Mastered by Michael Kolar of Chicago's Soundscape Studios, executive produced by our own DJ Z, and complete with artwork by Omar "DJ Ohms" Torres, In the Booth (Volume 2) is available for free download. Those who missed Volume 1, featuring freestyles 1 through 30, can download a free copy here. Watch for Volume 3 to drop after we've reached #90!

look, i'm not haten, but really, when did the term mixtape get so abused? not one thing on this is mixed, its solid tracks, but really to compare the term mixtape that was coined by DJs such as Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five... etc.. did dj clue ruin a whole generation? when did garageband fades, needle drops, and "MIXTAPE EXCLUSIVE!!!! echooooo... " become the standard?

love ya dj booth.. but lets get some real DJs to do some real DJing with these solid tracks
