Wax Rocks For Sold Out NYC Crowd [Exclusive Coverage]
New York, N.Y. -- Last Wednesday, New Yorkers reflected eternal and rubbed shoulders with fellow hip hop aficionados (literally) at Lower East Side venue Mercury Lounge all in honor of one man. College cool kids, eclectics and socialites, beer chuggers and hip-hop heads amassed to behold the work of DJBooth-favorite artist Wax.
Hosted by DJ Z, the sold-out concert featured headliner Wax and his crew, made up of Herbal T, Adam Dietch, Neal Evans, and Eric Krasno, performing all the premium selected cuts off the uber-successful Scrublife. The jam-packed crowd was impressed, to say the least, by the selections, and New Yorkers are not easily awed. Upon the headliner’s entrance, audience members began chanting the lyrics to the Def Jam-signee's songs; one favorite being “Music and Liquor,” as it gave way to waves of head nods of both co-signage and vibing along to the evocative, reflective beat. Wax had the audience in his hands, and as party-goers listened and sang along more and more, the old adage that people don’t dance in New York became ancient history.
The true magic of this concert is that the show was transformed into a virtual DJ Booth for the people of lower Manhattan. Wax was able to give us a peek at what he has in store, and his crew demonstrated for us that instrumentation is alive and well—yes, emcees, you are welcome to pick up an instrument once in a while and be creative. The mash up worked very well for the locale, and set the pace for the fall season and 2012’s music lineup.
