Dipset’s 40 Cal to Release Debut Album/DVD “The Yellow Tape” on April 1
Since you know the rules to the game, now it should be a no-brainer. Next on the list is Harlem. Home of the legendary Big L, and of course; the charismatic crew known simply as The Diplomats. If you look past Cam'ron's bravado, Juelz Santana's swagger, and Jim Jones' competitive nature; you'll find Calvin "40 Cal." Alan Byrd.
A member of Harlem based mix tape crew the Diplomats (aka Dipset), 40 Cal made his first appearance on the self titled theme song, "40 Cal," for the Dipset album Diplomatic Immunity, Vol. 2 (2004). However, his reputation is built on his notable rhyme battling skills, which was captured best on MTV2's Fight Klub MC battles. The competition allowed him to display his street level approach a dose of lethal metaphors mixed into his gangsta braggadocio.
With his own solo mix tapes, 40 Cal has made a name for himself separately from his Dipset clique, selling several thousands of units on his own. Beginning in 2006, he stepped up his exposure, recording mix tapes for record labels to be sold nationally. Broken Safety (2006) was cut for Cleopatra, and Broken Safety 2 (2007) for Babygrande, each followed by Trigger Happy 1 (2006) and Trigger Happy 2 (2007).
Now his sights are set towards his debut album; "The Yellow Tape". Included in the album is a DVD featuring some of 40’s best battles and behind the scenes footage as to what it really means to be down with Dipset. As he continues to erase the stigma about "so-called" battle rappers not being able to excel outside of [that] arena, he lets the world know exactly what he's aiming for.
