The crowd was amped all afternoon for headliners
A Tribe Called Quest to close out the show, but a series of unforgettable collaborations and special guest performances made everyone concentrate on the “then and now.”
Talib Kweli joined
Mos Def for several
Black Star records,
Method Man and
Redman joined forces to perform numbers from their expansive solo and collaborative catalogs, Wu-Tang members
Ghostface and
Raekwon hooked up, and the
Def Squad performed their most popular record of all-time, “Rapper’s Delight.”

Though all of the aforementioned performances wowed the crowd with equal parts hype and hip hop, the ultimate guest appearance was made by Brooklyn’s own,
Jay-Z, who joined
Nas on stage. The iconic rappers performed “
Black Republicans,” off of Nas’ first
Def Jam album “
Hip Hop Is Dead.”
A Q-Tip led ATCQ closed out the show, continuing the special guest appearance trend of the evening. The group was joined on stage by past collaborators/affiliates
Busta Rhymes and
Consequence.

When it comes to showcasing the best that the hip hop industry has to offer, Rock The Bells and the season of summer are synonymous with one thing: premiere concert event.
