Rising R&B star Rocki Evans has joined forces with DJBooth.net to bring listeners his latest mixtape, More Songs About Girls.
Inspired by will.i.am‘s 2007 solo album, Songs About Girls, the project features six fresh new tracks from the Big Apple-based singer (“Lipstick Regrets,” a last minute omission, was intentionally included in the album artwork). Included are Booth-approved leaks “Fantastic” and “Shape of My Heart.”
All instrumentals on the street album, which was mixed and mastered by Ariel Borujow and Ricardo Gutierrez of NYC’s Stadium Red Studios, come courtesy of production/songwriter duo Lady and a Tramp.

Been waiting for this to drop ever since I heard fantastic. For starters, the intro and outro were nice additions to the EP, even though they were pretty brief. Fantastic is probably my favorite song on the entire EP. Rocki's vocals are just so incredible IMO. Solid project from this man, I can't wait for the next one.

This is good, the dude can sing and the songs have some pretty nice beats. The order of the songs in witch i like them, excluding the intro/outro, are 1. Fantastic, 2. She's A Star, 3. Shape of My Heart, and 4. Mr. Heartbreaker.

This is definitely worth the download. You're in for some smooth vocals, unique beats, and some production that reminded me of the time when techno beats were all the rage.
In "Fantastic," There's some great vocal work on display...really upbeat and youthful. It goes perfectly with some spacy synth, guitar flourishes, and an equally upbeat bass line. This reminds me of a Jackson Five song... "Mr. Heartbreaker" is super catchy, and almost instantly had me nodding my head, although the singing here isn't as great, and seems somewhat muffled and distorted. In "She's a Star," a slower but deliberate beat, along with some synth string in the background, although it does seem to blend together with the vocals. That's not necessarily a bad thing though- just don't ask me remember the lyrics The silky smooth vocals take center stage in "Shape of my Heart", backed up by a simple beat...guys, your girl's gonna love this. Definitely check this out (Although I wish the outro was a complete song...I wanted more!). |

For an album titled More songs about girls I was expecting more. I was expecting songs that would climb on my itunes most played playlist. Evans has a nice voice but I think the production of his tracks don't push for diversity from his voice. I would love to hear more from him and get a better feel for him as an artist. It just seemed that Evans sang with the same energy in Fantastic as he did with Shape of my heart.
However, Shape of my heart is my favorite out of his four songs. I really connected to this song the most although it might be from the familiar beat that's killing me because I can't think of who sings on it. Aside from the beat I think his lyrics are most powerful on this song that any other. I do feel that the songs were well mixed. There was a nice flow from one song to the next. Type of album you press play and just walk away no need to press skip or find your next favorite song. |

The song is Release Me by Blaque..It was killing me but Evan's Shape Of My Heart and Release Me start off the same with Evans throwing in some variations on top of the beat.
