Chi-town emcee and Gent$ member Pugs Atomz has linked up with DJBooth.net, FakeShoreDrive.com, CoalMine Music and Fat Beats to present Kinda Like a Mixtape, the official prelude to his and Grant Parks’ collaborative studio album, Kinda Like a Rapper (out June 1).
Booth-premiered leak “Listen to My Album” sets the stage for the brand new street album, which finds Pugs serving up 13 tracks’ worth of vivid storytelling and braggadocious bravado while giving listeners a tour of hip-hop’s past and present.
Making guest appearances throughout the set are such Booth-approved artists as K. Sparks, Nikki Lynette, Gerald Walker and fellow Gent Wes Restless. Production comes courtesy of Slot A, DJ Vadim, Ill Poetic and more.

I've been waiting for this mixtape to drop for quite some time, and now that it is finally here, I'm undecided as to whether or not the wait was worth it. On one side of the fence, there are many tracks on the project that lived up to my expectations and then on the other side, there are certain tracks that could have been considered by many to be fillers. Despite the many tracks that would be skipped by me, Pugs is still one of my favorites and this mixtape is definitely worth a listen or two. My top five tracks, in no order, are:
1. Listen To My Album 2. Hunger 3. Yea Yea Yea Remix 4. Live 5. Kinda Like a Love Song All together, this was a very solid mixtape. Pugs came through in a good way and now the only thing on my mind is waiting for "Kinda Like a Rapper" to drop. |
