“Last week I was stumbling through my garage, searching through old storage bins, when I came across some old beat CDs from my days as a signed Interscope rapper. I was shocked to find that two of them, both given to me in ‘01, had the name Kanye West on them. These two CDs, which I believe are the oldest Kanye beats ever released, now celebrate their 10 year anniversary.
I think this collection of early Kanye beats shows you where he came from, even if it doesn’t necessarily sound like ‘Kanye’ now. He kept at it and became the incredible producer he is today. I remember he even had to leave the studio sessions early, so he could make the last train back to his mom’s house. He’s come a long way, and I’m proud to have been around, even if for just a second at the start.”
- Jensen Karp of The Hypemen

YOu can really see where he started with the basic sounds he had to work with this. The ideas/concepts are there but not fully banging them out yet. Probably due to the lack of money. Its good to hear the songs I grew up loving in their simplistic forms

These are cool, they remind you of his older stuff. They would probably never work today on a track, but it is still cool to see all his old rough drafts. Some of them did make it into songs.

It's cool, but for me I live sample free, too much sampling dosen't have a soul or artistic feel, but its good enough to get over,I ain't mad at him.

I wouldn't go as far as calling 'Ye Incredible, unless u meant "incredibly irritating" - This is my perception of Ye now!! However my rating for this joint is 5/5 why? Well the first time I heard 'The College Drop Out' it had a very humble feeling to it... with tracks like "through the wire", "family business" and "never let me down" I pictured this producer that was so grateful for getting a second chance at life he made me feel grateful to be walking... it was a feel good album start to finish (no skip). Now he runs his mouth off so much I get annoyed at media for sucking it up, and giving him attention for something stupid... Ye, take a look over ur shoulda and stop making radio music for these white folks! They got Justin Bieber for @*#$! like that!!

I love how people say i miss the old or i hate his attitude. ITs not about that its about the music and art thats coming out of him, he can be a @*#$! all he wants cause your fav rapper is sure not creating like he does. Thinks diffrently then ur average hiphopper. Miss the old ye well thats a thing of the past you gotta evolve if ur getting why not take to another in MUSIC not just hiphop.

Personally, I don't "miss the old", and I know Kanye evolved as a producer and his new stuff tops this, but these beats remind me of the beginning of Kanye West and how fresh it sounded. To me, College Dropout was more in contrast with its surroundings than any other Kanye album. These beats were the sound of a new era, and i don't blame people for listening with nostalgia.

I've known Ye since 1995. Im sitting on several "beat tapes" of his from back then, but would have never thought to put them out. smh I actually have recorded songs to some of these beats....

Beat 5 is a flip of Jerry Butler's "Just Because I Really Love You" that Dilla used for "U-Love" on Donuts. Much heavier chop. I like it though. A lot of these beats were on other discs or groups of Kanye stuff from discs about 10 years back. Cool @*#$! though.

some of the beats are not quite there, but you gotta remember that kanye was saving some heat for himself. "Then mabye he'd stop saving all the good beats for himself"

hahah, long way comin. These are NOT his first beats though. In 2001 Kanye had already been affiliated with Jay Z for a few years, makin tracks, singing hooks, etc. Check the liner notes on some of Jay's CD's. Nevertheless its refreshing to hear the Legend in his infancy.
