Miami hip-hop ensemble ArtOfficial have linked up with DJBooth.net, RefinedHype, Illroots and Kevin Nottingham to drop a free project entitled The Payback.
The 12-track street album finds emcees Newsense and Logics performing over the live backing of bandmates Danny Perez, Manny Patino, Ralf Valencia and Keith Cooper, who recreate classic instrumentals by everyone from rock legend Jimi Hendrix (“Voodoo”) to jazz trio Medeski, Martin & Wood (title track “The Payback”).
Making guest appearances throughout the project are ¡Mayday!‘s Wrekonize, QuESt, K. Sparks, Swamburger from Solillaquists of Sound, LLamabeats, Jesse Jackson and Asuka Barden.

One of the most creatively dope projects I have come across in quite a while. The live band element, selection of guest emcees and overall music landscape is fantastical.

@yubu8 and marmar, coincidentally ArtOfficial's Mc NewSence is a child hood friend of Mike Banger. Mike Banger is lil wayne's engineer. I never really cared for lil wayne's music but when Mike Banger started engineering his tracks I opened up my ear and now have some respect for some of it. At the end of the day these artist pour their heart and soul into the music they love. You (as in generally speaking) can hate on style but you can't hate on passion. Now on the review tip, "The Payback" is eloquently designed from the true jazzy feel of "Me Desculpe Mas No Resisti" to the warm melodic embrace of "Happiness is a Warm Gun." These boys are killing it! In the studio and on the stage. Mad respect to ArtOfficial.

yubu: like 99% of everyone you listed is garbage. they're hip pop not really hip hop. you must be young as many youngsters today are naive and don't know what makes real hip hop.
Fact: If it's on the radio or TV - it's not hip hop these days. It's pop garbage commercially designed to target young people in your demographic and sell records. If you like that stuff then whatever works for you. But know what it is that you are liking. That garbage music you are listening to won't stand the test of time as many true hip hop classics have, or classics from any genre. Chances are when you've grown old enough to come to your senses you will be too embarrassed to admit that you once listened to that garbage. Maybe by then you'll discover what real hip hop is supposed to sound like. |

On Topic: Great project, as Z said its very creative and original. No review for this one but I still enjoyed it lol. I really enjoyed Don't Sweat the Technique.
Off Topic: @marmar, you can't just write off major artists because they have mainstream appeal. Music is art, and yeah some of it has lost it's way but your just attacking artists with huge creativity. I mean you need to hear the depth of the music. It seems to me like your not listening to the lyrics, just the production. You put Nothing On You over an oldschool production and it loses its mainstream appeal, does that make it not garbage? Because I love the production on it. Just because its made to appeal to a larger audience doesn't mean its not music, and there is no need to attack someone else's opinions because they like certain artists. Lil Wayne actually has a lot of dope underground tracks, so you need to check yourself. And also, genre's evolve. I guarantee you there was someone just like you saying that hip hop was all crap that was ruining jazz back in the day. And if you hate today's music, then that's fine for you. But everyone's entitled to their opinions, so just keep it to yourself. |

"what real hip-hop sounds like" hym then i must be naive too think that real hi-hop is diverse and represents the artists thoughts and culture.
you say many of the people i listed are mainstream so you mean too tell me usher,snoopdog,naz,T.I,jay-z all will just go wash into the abyss as the genaration that never was. in other words your telling me these lyricist wont and have not become classics already well hym i guess then thats your opinion so feel free not too impose your views on hip-hop and rap upon me. were all entitled too our likes and dislikes but when you impose your views on others then your stepping over the line. how about you let me figure out what i like and dislike for myself and as-well i do the same, because from the way we differ from our views, its only apparent that theirs enough music in the hip-hop industry too suite our diversely different taste. |

plus too clarify when i said in my first post "this is not my taste" i did not in any way meant too say this was garbage or this was just ok. i actually like it and the production alone would get rotation but when i said it wasnt my taste that meant the production wasnt enough too excite me to the point of aww in its design.
so no actually like the album but it doesnt have the x factor for me too be well into my taste category. |

@marmar and yubu8, I hope your argument is over, because it was getting ridiculous. Everybody has their own taste in music, there's is no need to impose yours on someone else.

hey i can understand where your coming from man. some of the music out their is complete shit but we have to respect the views of others aswell. i know some of the mainstream rappers have put out very generic bad songs but they have also made emotionally moving, captivating hits as-well and those are what make it on my mp3.
as for the artists youve mentioned i really like nine leaves,DSFZ,smoovth, apex especially because that track struggle city was real. i respect where your coming from and i know exactly what your trying too say especially from your last post which should, i believe, have been your first post. |

Woah! I didn't expect these guys to spit so hard. I thought their appeal would come from their instrumentation, which is exceptional to say the least, but when dude spit the first verse over "Show Me Change", I realized these guys are legit. Keep up the good work.

Alright! So This is like one of the best rap albums i've ever heard! I mean all the beats are amazing and I love Voodoo, Happiness is a warm gun, and Oceanography all three use a classic rock sound and do it just and bring it up to terms of modern music. And honestly i am a beatles junky (even have ove 350 Beatles songs on my ipod) and using Happiness is a warm gun it was dun justice and well i have this whole album on my ipod now. its really chill and the dudes flow is good and his rhymes are unique and creative.

gotta love the true sound of the band. it truely makes the tracks more dynamic and creative. I wish more hip hop artists and groups did this. Why should acoustic music be for the indie rock and singer song writer genres only.
