Rick Ross Interview

Listen to More: Street Veterans

After garnering the attention of Jay-Z and Def Jam (by way of Slip-N-Slide Records), Miami rapper and true hustler Rick Ross will finally release a major label debut album on August 1st.  Formerly inked to Suave House Records (also former home to artists Young Noah and 8Ball & MJG), Ross’ road to stardom has been a long and winding venture.  Twelve years deep in the making, many might consider Ross an atypical form of the model, “overnight sensation.” However, with the 305 on his shoulders, industry heavyweight Hova by his side, and a Runners produced hit single ”Hustlin,” Rick doesn’t care what you call him (as long as you buy his album when it drops).

In case you’re wondering where you can currently hear Ross’ gritty southern rhymes, need look no further than almost every A-list artist currently making music.  DJ Khaled scooped up Ross for his “Holla At Me Baby” single which boasts the likes of Lil’ Wayne, Paul Wall, Pitbull and Fat Joe.  Young Jeezy and Jay-Z joined Ross on the remix to his current smash single (as noted earlier), and Cool n Dre claimed his services on the single “Chevy Ridin High.”

During his interview with DJBooth.net’s DJ’s “Z” and Caliente, Ross discusses the monumental nature of his up-coming album (Port of Miami) for both his own personal accomplishment and the enjoyment of his ever-growing fan base.  In addition to his album, one of the hardest working men in the business talks about his signing to Def Jam, his fashion style which include a full out beard, and how he really ended up getting on Khaled’s “Holla At Me Baby” single.
