DJ Spotlight Interview
The life of a professional DJ is a busy one: Hold down a 9 to 5 from Monday through Friday, and then every other minute before, after and on weekends, perfect your craft, practice new mixes, play gigs, produce mix tapes, and most importantly promote your name to the masses. Easy right? (Note the shared sarcasm between the reader and writer.)
Now for an additional clump of sarcasm, the best elements in the life of a DJ must be revealed: scheduling complexity and insufficient amounts of nightly sleep. Attributes, unique to the life of an up-in-coming DJ, but don’t make the passion and craft any less desirable. Don’t believe me? Ask DJBooth.net’s November Spotlight: DJ Bedtyme357.
While on the grind since 2005, Bedtyme357 has seen his fair share of immediate success. This past June he made an appearance on BET’s Rap City as a guest DJ with show host Mad Linx. At the Underground Music Awards, Bedtyme357 was nominated for and received the ’’DJ of the Year” award. Just recently, Bedtyme357 was notified that he received three nominations for the Justo Mixtape Awards (Best New Mixtape DJ, Best New Underground Mixtape DJ, Best Hip Hop Mixtape), which will be held this December at the world-famous Apollo Theatre in New York City.
Also on his plate is the delight of working with [now] former Terror Squad member, Remy Ma. Bedtyme357 is Remy’s official DJ and has been on tour with her throughout the past two years. [This following a stint with the legendary CL Smooth on the European leg of the ‘American Me’ EP Tour.] The travel schedule [while on tour] for some might put a freeze on other opportunities. Nevertheless, Bedtyme357 has thrived in the radio world as the host of Hate Money Radio on 1.FM Jamz Fridays from 9pm to 11pm.
During his spotlight interview with DJBooth.net’s DJ “Z,” Bedtyme357 discusses the flooded mix tape market, how he has transitioned from his the vinyl to digital age, and what equipment he is currently using at home and on the road. Furthermore, find out why sleep is overrated and about what a DJ dreams.
