Signed to Jive Records courtesy of Cool N Dre’s label, Epidemic, Miami’s Dirtbag has been extremely hungry and on the grind. Born in Knoxville, Tennesse, Dirtbag transitioned homes and career choices at a young age. Determined to be successful, he quit playing football during his high school years to concentrate solely on a music career.
It turned out to be a good choice as a big break eventually came in the form of a talented local Miami duo. While participating in a small talent show, Dirtbag was introduced to Cool n Dre. His grand prize for winning the event? Studio time with the guys and the chance to show off his skills. Soon there after a whirlwind of a events began to unfold at warped speed. Cool n Dre signed a label distribution deal with major players Jive, and laid the groundwork for their first release; None other than the crowned talent show winner himself.
Unfortunately, that is where the fairytale began to unravel. Although Dirtbag was teamed up with two of the hottest up-in-coming producers in the industry, his inked contract quickly became nothing more than an ancient artifact. Although his status as a major artist was a lot to hang his hat on, the release of his debut album is what Dirtbag was most looking forward to accomplishing.
Currently hyping his buzz single, Haterz (produced by his label heads), Dirtbag took the time to talk with DJ “Z.” During their interview, Dirtbag touches on when the public will eventually hear his highly anticipated (and much delayed) album “Eyes Above Water,” why he doesn’t regret signing his record deal with Jive and what his doubters can do if they still have a problem with him.
