DJBooth.net’s “Z,” & Caliente interviewed 18-year-old Capitol Records sensation, Ak’Sent

Capitol Records recognized Ak’Sent’s star power immediately, signing the then 16-year-old only a day after seeing her perform at a Los Angeles showcase. Since then she has recorded her debut album, International, and grabbed self-proclaimed dancehall “King” Beenie Man to join her on the smash hit, “Zingy.”  Contributing on International is the legendary DJ Quik, who blessed Ak’Sent with his production skills on the aggressive vibe on “..1.” As far as featured guests are concerned, enlisting big names wasn’t a priority for Ak’Sent. “I really wanted it to be about me,” she says.

During the interview Ak’Sent talks about her musical growth at such a young age and the overall sound of her new album.  She even lends her hand to “Z” and Caliente as an A&R, critiquing their singing version of her album’s title-track, International.  Take a listen!
