V.T.'s TOP HIP HOP SINGLES

Can't Be Friends Promo Photo Trey Songz - “Can't Be Friends”

“This song is great. It is way better than his other single and this style is better for Trey than his pop style. I think this song is even better than Neighbors Know My Name, which was one of the better slow songs of the last year. This song shows that Trey can retain his crown as King of R&B.”

Your Love Promo Photo Nicki Minaj - “Your Love”

“I think that this song is solid. The only problems I find are that of the producer. During the chorus, Nicki's voice becomes annoying when the background vocals start getting higher. It adds a weird dynamic to this song, and one that I don't really like. Nicki will have a great album if she has good producers. To me, this song shows that she can hold down a song by herself, but not extremely well. Nicki is a great guest on other's tracks, and I think she can and will develop into an artist that has strong solo records.”

9 AM in Dallas Promo Photo Drake - “9 AM in Dallas”

“This song is really good. This is Drake at his best. Of course, it helps that he has a great track to spit over. Drake is more dynamic here than on most of the songs on Thank Me Later. Personally, I like him as a rapper more than as a singer. Even though it is a freestyle, this song does not seem lost at any point. I hope Drake returns to this style because, even though his latest album is really strong, he is one of the best in the game with songs like this.”

Young Money
Young Money - “Every Girl”

“This is my favorite song off We Are Young Money, a solid rookie album. It has a great chorus and Lil Wayne at his most creative and talented moments, which are lacking on other songs on the album. Young Money is the future of rap/hip-hop, and that very much excites me. Drake is a star, and any of his moments in this album are a bright spot. This song has good verses from all of the other collaborators, and none detract from the greatness. This song is a classic because it is the starting point for all other great things to come from Young Money.”
