Nathan S.'s TOP HIP HOP SINGLES

Let's Ride Promo Photo Shane Eli - “Let's Ride”

“I don't think many would think of Shane as the kind of artist who can make a dope, Dirty South, let's f**k in the car banger. Looks like they'll have to start thinking differently.”

For the People Promo Photo Donny Goines - “For the People”

“You'll be hard pressed to find anyone more consistently turning out quality hip-hop than SMKA, so it's no surprise that with this many good emcees For the People sounds dope. Can't wait to hear the final project.”

Rittz Rittz - “Nowhere to Run”

“Actually talked about this with Burn One - that guitar line is original, but it definitely reminds me of a rock riff - System of a Down maybe? Any help? Anyway, for everyone who though that Rittz was "just" a double-time rapper, this should change that. Behind the flow there's some serious lyricism here. Dopeness.”

The Night Is Young Promo Photo Shane Eli - “The Night Is Young”

“The hardcore hip-hop heads obviously want Kings over and over again, but I think it's more impressive to have the range to do something a track like that lyrically and a joint that radio will love (without doing some Tooted and Booted type s**t). Plus the ladies love it, and if the ladies love it.....”

My World Promo Photo Mike Beatz - “My World”

“Not everyone can find that line between hard rhymes and smooth beats, but Mike and Wrek do it nicely here. This is some of that real head-nodder music.”

Nathan S.'s TOP ALBUMS

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy Promo Photo Kanye West - “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”

“No real need for me to jump in here since it seems like everyone's in agreement. Other than to say: 1) Again, love Chris Rock, a skit like that just doesn't feel right on this album. 2) For the record, I didn't actually review Akon's "Konvicted" (that was before I started working for the Booth). This is the first 5 stars in two years or so I've been doing this. The only albums that have come close are Lupe's "The Cool", Dream's "Love vs. Money", more recently Big Boi's "Son of Chico Dusty" and a few others. Lastly, are we all cool with Nicki Minaj's British narrator leading off the album? I'm actually fine with it.”

Live From the Tape Deck Promo Photo Skyzoo & !llmind - “Live From the Tape Deck”

“I know only 5 people will get it, but this review contains the best hidden movie reference I've ever done (no, not the obvious Back to the Future reference at the end). God I love my own writing sometimes. Oh, and this album's dope as hell. Also that.”

The Adventures of Bobby Ray Promo Photo B.o.B - “The Adventures of Bobby Ray ”

“"Nathan likes to give artists room to grow. If he gave the project a 4.5/5.0 it would mean Bobby would be incapable of cranking out anything better... and despite this being f**king great, he is capable of even better (as all artists are)." Damn Z, you and I do spend a lot of time together. You nailed it. I know everyone always gets hung up on the number rating, so let me quickly say that yes, this was one hell of an album, but I've only given 4.5 stars to a very, very small number of albums (Lupe's The Cool, Alicia Key's As I Am, etc.) and this just isn't at that level - nor should it be. It's one of the strongest debut's we've heard in a while, and I feel like B.o.B. definitely had a classic or at least near-classic album in him, but for now he's still growing and figuring out his place as an artist.”

Nathan S.'s TOP MIXTAPES & STREET ALBUMS

{title} Jason James & Rodney Hazard - Marvelous World of Color

“This one goes right next to Portishead in my "music to kill yourself to" collection. As I've been writing for weeks, this is one of the most distinctly original projects I've heard in a long time, I respect the f**k, if you can do such a thing, our of James & Hazard's artistic vision.”

{title} Best of the Booth Vol. 1

“Just like I think my daughter's the most beautiful baby in the world, since I helped put this together it's hard for me not to think this is the dopest mixtape...of all time...ever, but seriously? How dope is this?”
